Padel has arrived at The Point in Polzeath, adding a new rhythm to long summer days on the coast. Social, faced-paced and easy to pick up, it's quickly become a favourite way to spend time between beach swims and sunset drinks.

Think of it as tennis meets squash. It's played in doubles on a smaller court, with glass walls that keep the ball in play and the rallies going. It's surprisingly simple to learn and brilliantly fun to master, whether you’re a seasoned player or stepping onto the court for the very first time.

Sunshine, seafood and a soundtrack to match. The Rock Oyster Festival is back this summer, bringing its unique mix of music, food and good times to the banks of the Camel Estuary.

Taking place from 24 to 27 July on the Dinham Estate near Rock, this much loved festival is one of the highlights of the Cornish summer. Expect long, lazy days filled with chef demos, feasting, dancing and family fun, all with that unbeatable estuary backdrop.

Foodies are in for a treat, with a roll call of top chefs hosting pop up restaurants, banquet feasts and hands-on workshops.

Alongside the food, there is a brilliant music line up spanning laid back acoustic sets to headline acts. This year expect big names such as Rag'N'Bone Man, Kate Nash, UB40 and Ministry of Sound Classical.

Little ones are well looked after too, with plenty of activities and entertainment designed just for them. Think aerial acrobatics, ukulele singalongs and axe throwing to name a few.

Happy St Pirans Day to one and all - or in Cornish "Gool Peran Lowan".

Watch the latest from ITV News - Hundreds of people have been parading through Truro, as well as Newquay and Penzance, to honour Saint Piran - who became the patron saint of tin miners.

Pollsygh and Trebedrek were the old names for what are now Polzeath and Trebetherick.

"Pol" is a common Cornish prefix referring to a body of water and "zeath" was a reference to it being dried up. So "Polzeath" was a place where they was sometimes a dried-up creek or bay. Presumably only at low tide!

Until the early 1900's Polseath was the local spelling although probably pronounced the same as now (think how the Wurzels pronounce cider!). As late as 1942 Enid Blyton published "Five on Treasure Island" and on the first page wrote how disappointed the children were at not going on their usual family holiday to "Polseath".

As for Trebedrek it means homestead of great holidays!

Never realised that the rocks in the Trebetherick area contain exposures that are considered difficult and controversial!
Not sure we understand much of this 2010 Field trip to study the Devonian and Quaternary in the Trebetherick area, but the pictures are great and it certainly is interesting and exciting!

The chough is the symbol of Cornwall - it is on the Coat of Arms and, according to legend, King Arthur turned into a chough on his death.
Changes in agriculture and hunting made them extinct in Cornwall by 1973 but the red-billed corvid began to recolonise Cornwall in 2001, and last week we were thrilled to spot a pair near Pentire Point although under the watchful eyes of a pelegrine falcon!

The 2024 breeding season was the best yet, with a record number of breeding pairs and a total of 108 chicks known to have successfully fledged. A “clattering of choughs” indeed.

What could be more exhilarating than the annual Xmas Day swim at Polzeath?

With over 400 people joing in the fun followed by hot chocolate and mulled tipples, this festive event has a real community feel!

Or a warm up session with the Daymer Bay Bluetits on Xmas Eve at 11:00

Todays update from Polzeath - probably not the best spot to moor a yacht, but hopefully the Harbourmaster won't charge mooring fees.
Great shots from Chris Parsons.
