Lundy Island facts that are frankly too good not to share 🐧🏴‍☠️

🏴‍☠️ In 1627, a crew of Barbary corsairs sailed in, flew an Ottoman flag over it and used it as a raiding base for five whole years. On an island you can see from Braddicks.

👑 In 1925, a man called Martin Coles Harman bought it, declared himself King and minted his own coins with his face on. The House of Lords weren’t best pleased.

✈️ In 1941, two German bombers crash landed there. The wreckage is still on the island today.

🐧 Its name literally means Puffin Island in Old Norse - of course it does!

Day trips run from Bideford - just up the road from Braddicks.

Did you know there's a Victorian sea pool hiding in Westward Ho!? 👀🌊

The Rock Pool has been here for over 120 years - they actually had to blast the rock to build it - and it fills up naturally with fresh seawater every single tide. It's completely free, no booking needed, and one of the best kept secrets on the North Devon coast.

Perfect for a morning dip, paddling with the kids, or just sitting on the edge with your feet in while you pretend you're going to actually get in… we've all been there 😄

You'll find it at the southern end of Westward Ho! beach - just follow the coastline and keep your eyes peeled.

Pro tip: check the tide times before you go, and don't hang around too long once the waves start coming over the edge! 🌊
