Cadillac

According to legend, the owner of the Cadillac invested all his money in buying a car, there was no money left for gasoline. He lived inside the car.

According to another legend, this is Beria's Cadillac.

Now it stands in one of the yards in Sololaki, and apparently the residents are so tired of tourists who come to take photos that the Cadillac has been moved to the back of the yard. The angle is not very convenient, but you can still take a photo :)

You can learn more about the car itself, find the very courtyard and answer the question in our self-guided mobile quest tour of Sololaki.

STORIES OF SOLOLAKI

Georgian capital’s rich inhabitants of the second half of 19th century competed against each other for who is going to build the most beautiful and extraordinary house.

It’s because of their money and welcoming feelings towards new trends in world architecture a unique new style has evolved – “Caucasus modern”. And Sololaki district is a true gem of the style.

Most of the houses were planned and built to include two main functions: living and letting. First floors were let for commercial purposes, while second floor was used for private accommodation.

Take this self-guided walking tour throughout the Sololaki district and participate in our quest, while learning interesting facts, stories and legends of the area.

👉 Follow instructions.
👉 Find clues by answering the questions.
(Some answers will require closer attention to the surroundings, some answers are hidden in the texts preceding the question).
👉 Be attentive to details.

Once upon a time… A friend of ours was looking through the Facebook-based options to walk Tbilisi by foot. And you know that there are plenty out here 🙂

Those popular Sololaki home entrances and painted hallways, the Old Town walks going up to the Narikala and strolling down to Abanotubani, the refurbished and polished “New Tiflis” on the left bank, etc. you name it… All looks good and sounds great! But the thing is that she’s been there already, seen it all quite a number of times so she would even sometime comment under such city tour posts arguing with the authors or wondering if her knowledge were correct… Until she was advices to try and quest through famous Tbilisi districts.

And that’s how we became friends! 🙂 She said that this is exactly the new way to discover her lovely Tbilisi she was looking for.

And what would you, Tbilisi connoisseurs, think of taking up the challenge to Quest our magic Tbilisi? 🙂

Spare 2 minutes to read through the page (link below) and choose your Quest route, and then feel free to share your opinion with the community here 🙂 We do believe that you too will become our friend!

Mukhrani Bridge

On April 24, 1911, the grand opening of the iron monolithic bridge across the Mtkvari river took place. The bridge was designed for carriage, tram and pedestrian traffic. The sidewalks were rendered on consoles.

Its' impressive dimensions, especially the scale of the metal racks, fell out of the general picture of architectural surrounding. In addition, due to the increase in traffic flow, the capacity of the bridge has become insufficient.

And in 1966 a new bridge was built in its place, which still stands there.

In 2008, a sculptural composition "Youth" by G. Japaridze appeared on the bridge.

Do you know the current name of the bridge?

✅ Peace Bridge

✅ Queen Tamar Bridge (from Heroes Square towards Train station)

✅ Baratashvili Bridge (near the Justice House, towards Avlabari)

✅ Galaktion Bridge (towards Mardjanishvili metro)

Free quest tour as a gift for the correct answer!

At first glance, Kotetishvili Turn is no different from many other narrow streets on the slope of Mtatsminda ⛰. But only if you do not look into the basement of the house at number 8. A round yellow sign above the entrance says that now there is a family-owned grocery store called "Tokhliauri". Feel free to go inside!

If you ask store owners about the history of this premises, you will find out that in 1987 a semi-legal restaurant of the same name was opened here. We are sure that you will immediately notice how thoroughly the owners of that establishment approached the interior design - the original mosaic has been perfectly preserved. And what a piece of art they are! Here, among other things, there is a Georgian feast ("supra"), and a festival of grape harvest ("rtveli") and many other small details.

But the central composition is especially beautiful (pictured): a masked figure of a creature with horns. Together with three musicians, the composition reflects a popular festival in Georgia. Its origin is associated with the pagan festivals of abundance and revival, as well as the cult of some pagan gods.

❓The main event of the festivities on this day is the theater of masks, based on complete improvisation. This action gave the name to the holiday, which Georgians celebrate to this day. What is it called?

Write the answer in the comments.

The winner will be randomly selected from among those who give the correct answer 🔱
