TMI Garbett Point Trek

*ABOUT GARBETT PLATEAU*
Garbett point is located on the South-west side of Matheran with a grand view of the plateau. The place is cool and pleasant even when the scorching sun raises the temperature in Mumbai. This makes it an easy and accessible night trek near Mumbai. A deep forest runs through the Matheran, which covers approx 8 sq Kms in the Sahyadris. This lovely spot was discovered in 1850 by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the collector of the Thane district.

TMI Makadnal Trek ( Harishchandragad )

11th February 2024 (10th February 2024, 11.05pm meeting at Titwala Railway Station )

Ascend via Makadnal
Descend via Junnar Darwaza (Khireshwar Village)

The fort is quite ancient. Remnants of Microlithic man have been discovered here. The various Puranas (ancient scriptures) like Matsyapurana, Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many references about Harishchandragad. Its origin is said to have been in the 6th century, during the rule of Kalachuri dynasty. The citadel was built during this era. The various caves probably have been carved out in the 11th century.These caves are idols of Lord Vishnu. Though the cliffs are named Taramati and Rohidas, they are not related to Ayodhya. Great sage Changdev (one who created the epic Tatvasaar), used to meditate here in the 14th century. The caves are from the same period. The various constructions on the fort and those existing the surrounding region point to the existence of diverse cultures here. The carvings on the temples of Nageshwar (in Khireshwar village), in the Harishchandreshwar temple and in the cave of Kedareshwar indicate that the fort belongs to the medieval period, since it is related to mahadeva as a totem of tribes koli mahadev. they was control the fort before the Moguls. Later the fort was under the control of Moguls. The Marathas captured it in 1747.

Makdnal will test your morale, stamina and endurance to the core. With rocky patches and technical climbing, you’ll reach the top. Our leads of trek buddies and technically sound experts will make your climb a memorable and safe one.
This trek is *not for beginners.* Those who have trekked before and have taken the challenge of the mountain, only those can attend this event. It takes approx. 10-12 hours Appx just to reach Kokankada top from the base. We climb by MakadNaal route and descend via Khireshwar route.

Trek Grade: *Hard*
Endurance: *Very High*
*For experienced Trekkers* .
