There is a time in San Gimignano when time stands still.
It is not yet day. It is not yet night.
It is that suspended moment when the sky turns cobalt
and the medieval towers are bathed in golden light —
as if history were still smouldering within the stone.
The Salvucci Towers rise up, identical, twin, silent.
Built to defy the sky and measure the power of those who lived there.
Today they measure only the silence of those who gaze upon them.
Someone is sitting on the steps.
Perhaps they do not know they are inside a fresco.
Perhaps they know it all too well.
