The best thing my daughters brought home from Europe wasn’t a souvenir.

When our girls were 14 and 12, we chose a river cruise as their first European adventure. We sailed the Rhine, starting in Switzerland, visiting France and Germany, and ending in the Netherlands.

One moment I’ll never forget:
“Mom, everyone we meet speaks at least two languages.”

Watching them experience different cultures, languages, and ways of life reminded me that travel is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children. It gave them a new perspective on the world—and gave us uninterrupted time together as a family.

We loved exploring the smaller towns and cities that many travelers miss on their way to the big destinations. Of course, now all I hear is, “When can we go to Paris?” and “What about London?” 😊

That’s the beauty of travel—there’s no one right way to see the world.

My job as a travel advisor is to help you find your way. The one that fits your family, your travel style, and the memories you want to create together.

Because my goal is always the same: helping families build a deeper connection with the places they visit and the people they travel with.

Thinking about Europe for your family? Send me a DM—I would love to help you make it happen.

XOXO,
Shannon

We’ve all seen the posts.

“The money will come back, but the memories will last forever.”

And while I agree with that sentiment, I think it misses the point.

Travel isn’t valuable because of the photos.
It’s valuable because it’s meaningful to you.

It changes the way you see the world.
It changes the conversations you have.
It changes your relationships because of the memories you create together.

One of the things I’ve learned after traveling to so many destinations is that we’re terrible at predicting how a place will make us feel.

And then we go.

We walk through a doorway in Marrakech.
We watch the sunset in Croatia.
We share a bottle of rosé on a beach in Spain.
We get lost in a neighborhood in Tokyo.

And somehow we come home just a little different than when we left.

People often ask me what my favorite destination is.
My answer is usually the last place I traveled.
Not because it’s trendy or was on my bucket list, but because every destination leaves me with a new perspective. Every trip teaches me something.

That’s why I love what I do.

I get to send people to places I’ve personally experienced, and help them discover places they’ve dreamed of visiting for years. My expertise isn’t just in destinations. It’s in understanding my clients, what matters to them, and designing experiences that become part of their story.

This photo captures that perfectly.
A beautiful doorway.
A glimpse into somewhere unknown.
It could be anywhere.
And that’s what travel is.

A chance to step into a different place, a different perspective, and a version of yourself that hasn’t existed yet.

Because the best souvenirs aren’t things.

They’re the stories, the memories, and the people we become along the way.

XOXO,
Shannon

Last week I came back from Croatia and someone close to me said:

“Watch out… the boss is back in town. She knows how to get sh*t done.”

And honestly?
I took that as one hell of a compliment.

I’m Shannon, Founder of House of Travel Design, and yes — I get sh*t done.

I get to send people around the world to make memories with the people they love most, but what people don’t always see is how much trust comes with that.

My clients trust me because:
• I treat their time and money like it’s my own…I don’t waste either
• I’m available when they need me
• They know my recommendations come from real experience
• And they know I will always have their best interests at the forefront

Whether it’s the right hotel, the perfect dinner reservation, or a destination they’ve never considered before — my clients know I know travel.

I’m fiercely loyal.
I care deeply.
And family will always come first.

So if you’re looking for someone who will advocate for you, guide you honestly, and help create unforgettable experiences around the world… let’s start planning.

Some hotels are nice.

And then there are hotels that make you feel like you’ve been let in on a secret.

in London is that place.

No sign outside.
No tourist energy.
No trying too hard.

From the moment you walk in, it feels less like a hotel and more like you’re staying at your impossibly chic celebrity friend’s London flat.

The bar tucked below the lobby? Dark, sexy, and effortlessly cool. No photos allowed. A table reserved just for hotel guests. It’s the kind of place where you’re in the scene… without needing to be seen.

And the details? They absolutely nail them.

Every room comes stocked with complimentary water, soda, coffee, and an entire drawer full of snacks that somehow makes late-night movie nights feel luxurious. The hospitality is warm, polished, and deeply personal in a way that’s becoming harder to find.

The rooftop restaurant serves incredible food and cocktails, and the entire property just exudes romance.

This is where you go for:
• Couples trips
• Honeymoons
• Girls weekends in London
• Or honestly… anytime you want to feel like the main character for a few days

And gentlemen — if you want to look like you have absolutely everything figured out? This is where you take your sweetheart.

And when you book with me, I’ll make sure the experience gets elevated even further with VIP perks and upgrades that make the whole stay unforgettable.

XOXO~

Most travelers are doing Split, Croatia completely wrong.

They rush through it on the way to Hvar, check a few boxes, take a photo in Old Town… and leave without ever really experiencing the city.

I just returned from Split again after attending a luxury travel conference there, and every time I go back I’m reminded why this city deserves more than a quick stopover.

The best experiences in Split aren’t found on a “Top 10 Things To Do” list. They come from knowing how to move through the city well.

Stay long enough to slow down.
Get intentionally lost in Old Town.
Spend time in the water.
And don’t over-plan every second.

If you want a more relaxed luxury experience:
• Stay at the 5-star Hotel Ambasador Split for waterfront views and easy walkability to Old Town
• Or the 4-star Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Split if you want more resort-style amenities and direct access to the Adriatic

And food? Split absolutely delivers if you know where to go.
A few spots worth planning around:
• Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar — still one of my favorite dinners in the city
• Zoi — incredible setting for sunset drinks or dinner near the palace walls .split
• Dvor — worth it for a long lunch by the water .split

But honestly? One of the best things you can do in Split is leave space in the itinerary.

Walk the Riva at sunset.
Jump into the Adriatic.
Order another glass of Croatian wine.
Wander down alleyways with no plan.

That’s the difference between simply visiting a destination… and experiencing it well.

This is also why relationships matter in travel. The right hotel teams, private guides, drivers, restaurant contacts, and in-country partners completely change the experience once you land.

That’s the part of luxury travel most people never see behind the scenes — and exactly why I spend time building these relationships around the world for my clients.

SAVE this post for your future Croatia trip and follow along for more luxury travel insights, hotel recommendations, and destination expertise from the ground.

XOXO~

For those of you traveling to Europe this summer, this is what you need to know now about EES.

I’ve now personally gone through the new EES process in Croatia and have been closely tracking rollout issues across Europe with my in-country partners.

The reality?
The experience varies dramatically by country, airport, time of day, and even which biometric machines are functioning.
Some airports are seeing manageable 10–15 minute processing times. Others are reporting delays of 2–3+ hours due to kiosk failures, fingerprint scanner issues, and congestion.

This is where travel planning shifts beyond hotels and destinations.

It becomes operational strategy:
→ Choosing the right entry point
→ Avoiding risky connection times
→ Knowing where VIP airport services truly matter
→ Understanding how each country is handling rollout differently

The difference between a stressful arrival and a seamless one is rarely luck.
It’s preparation.
