⛩️🔥 The incredible energy of the Sanno Matsuri!
Today, June 14th, the streets of Tokyo came alive for the neighborhood mikoshi processions (Chiiki Togyo).
In the first video, you can witness the most spectacular moment performed by the Ujiko (the local residents and shrine parishioners) of the Tori Nichome neighborhood:
1️⃣ Oshiai: The intense "shove and push" where bearers pack closely together, violently shaking the portable shrine to build up raw energy.
2️⃣ Sashi: The epic climax where they suddenly lift the incredibly heavy mikoshi high above their heads with locked, outstretched arms to honor the deity.
The strength, stamina, and perfect synchronization required for this are absolutely breathtaking.
❗Fun fact: Since this full-scale festival only takes place once every two years (in even-numbered years), the next one won't happen until 2028!
