Dubai T+5: yesterday was a day of extreme logistics as our Mar 5 flights out to LA were cancelled while we were having a snack break at Dubai Mall's Chinatown. What followed was an impressive collaboration of insights and talents from our home support crew of spouses/adult children/friends (and in my case the incredible Flight desk) to help us make the next best decisions across each of our situations. Glad that is now safely on his way to Hong Kong, and 5 of us are scheduled in the next 15 hrs to leave to various cities in India. and I are making our way to Mumbai and then figuring it out from there. Our revised goal is to be home in time for our sons' shared birthday in a few days.

As a backup plan, and especially as some remain in Dubai awaiting flights back to the US, we have called the State department hotline and registered our group for any repatriation commercial or charter flights back to the US.

Thank you all for your many prayers, supportive notes and offers of help. I will keep posting updates until all of us are safely home 🥰

Dubai T+3: today we visited the northernmost emirate Ras Al-Khaima--including a visit to Jebel (Mountain) Jais and an Emirati pearl farm. Unfortunately on the ride back to Dubai we learned our Mar 4 flights were cancelled. We have now officially scrubbed India and are rebooking flights back to Los Angeles as soon as is available. I know that it is very alarming to read the State department's directive to leave the Middle East now. The situation on the ground is pretty calm and we feel safe. I do feel very bad for the beautiful countries I have visited on this trip: UAE, Jordan, Egypt who will undoubtedly suffer (at least) great economic loss now. While I am confident we will make it home safely, the people here will continue to deal with the consequences of war.

Dubai update: our rebooked flight tomorrow was cancelled, and then the replacement was cancelled 😞 5 hours spent on email, the phone and WhatsApp later and we have a flight on Mar 4 and some of our group (me included) hope to still meet up with the India tour in Jaipur🤞 My Sylvia found a Chinese spa and whisked me away for some massaging and respite. While it is disappointing that we are missing some of our India itinerary, we will make the most of our extra days in Dubai and grateful that we are safe and well taken care of.

Thank you to all who have reached out with notes of concern and support. We are all fine and despite the news we were having a great time yesterday in the desert area of Dubai and Abu Dhabi--not close to any of the damaged areas. Our hotel in Dubai is in the city center (away from the beach area). We are hopefully flying out a day later than planned on March 2 to continue our trip to India. We have another hotel night booked at the Conrad Dubai and we are together helping each other.

Thank you to for their amazing help in navigating the chaos of airline rebooking and reducing the stress.

The best $5 I spent in Jordan-tipping a photographer at the Treasury for an impromptu photoshoot.

There was no better way to start my Jordan trip than learning about this incredible country through its cuisine. I have been on a lot of food tours around the world, and is one of the best. Why?..because of the sheer amount and variety of regional specialties I sampled (this video only covers a small sample) was accompanied by insights and stories of Jordan's history and culture as we strolled through Rainbow Street, the Sugar Market and Downtown Amman.

A profound start to this year's trip in the beautiful country of Jordan! 🇯🇴 Amman, Jerash, Mount , the Dead Sea, Wadi Rum and the jewel that is Petra were incredible sights to behold. Thank you to and for the generous and warm hospitality!

Floating in the Dead Sea which has over 30% salinity. Thank you to the lifeguards who not only guided me me from bobbing away too far, but also acted as spa technicians: applying Dead Sea mud body masks and harvesting slabs of salt for a finishing scrub.
