A game ranger found himself in an intense situation when a curious leopard unexpectedly jumped onto his Jeep and began sniffing around. Staying calm, he avoided making direct eye contact, allowing the leopard to feel unthreatened until it eventually lost interest and moved away.

Following the incident, a press release was issued to address concerns:

“We wish to clarify an incident involving a young male leopard that has recently exhibited unusually inquisitive behavior around safari vehicles. Footage circulating online shows the leopard jumping onto the bonnet of a Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge vehicle during a sighting where two cubs and their mother were feeding on an impala. The situation escalated when the male cub approached the vehicle and unexpectedly leaped onto it. SANParks officials were promptly informed of the event.

We want to firmly emphasize that Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge does not encourage or condone such close interactions in any way. Our strict safety protocols are in place to protect both guests and wildlife, ensuring that all encounters occur in a controlled and respectful manner. Guest safety, responsible wildlife viewing, and the preservation of natural animal behavior remain our top priorities.”
