The Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers is a representative body that brings together duly registered hotels, camps and lodges in Kenya.

Founded in 1944, KAHC is the principal umbrella organization bringing together hotels, lodges, camps, restaurants, membership clubs and prominent airline caterers whose common theme is to render services in the hospitality industry. The association is actively engaged with its membership and other bodies and association both in the public and private sector in not only advancing the tourism agenda, but also in heralding the adoption and implementation of quality service delivery standards and building of innovative hospitality products for our visitors.

TOURISM REGULATIONS 2026

Under the KTF umbrella, we appeared before the Senate Committee on Delegated Legislation to present our position on the recently published Tourism Regulations 2026. We continue championing the hospitality sector—calling for a business-friendly regulatory framework that reduces compliance costs, streamlines licensing, phases in new requirements, and protects jobs.

We will keep engaging stakeholders to secure practical, cost-effective outcomes.

Yesterday, the KAHC team paid a courtesy call to Ms. Rozlaine Hakiki, General Manager of Villa Rosa Kempinski.

We engaged in fruitful discussions focused on strategies to grow and strengthen the hospitality sector, while exploring new opportunities to enhance collaboration and active engagement in support of the Association’s initiatives.

KAHC attended the opening of the Africa Capital Week 2026 at the Argyle Grand Hotel today. The forum's guest of honour was Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon Musalia W Mudavadi. The CEO, Mike Macharia, was a panelist in a session on Capital for Tourism & Hospitality: Ecotourism hospitality infrastructure and cultural economy investment aligned with diaspora engagement. The CEO was joined on the panel by David Gitonga, Tourism Secretary, Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife; Agatha Juma , Co-founder, Engage Kenya; Judy Kepha-Gona, Founder, STTA (Sustainable Travel & Tourism Africa - ); and Varun Arora, Chief Operating Officer, PrideInn Hotel Lantana Hotel, Westland, Nairobi.

Today, the KAHC held a highly fruitful consultative engagement with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Stakeholder Relationship Department.
The delegation, led by our CEO, included our Tax Consultant, Robert Waruiru, and CFO representatives from our member organizations. The KRA team was led by Emmy Rutto.
To ensure continuous collaboration and resolve sector-specific tax concerns, the meeting agreed on the following key action points:
Technical Working Group: Formation of a joint technical working group that will meet regularly to resolve operational and technical tax matters efficiently.
Leadership Engagement: Planning an upcoming high-level engagement with the Commissioner General.
VAT Tax Point Clarity: Submitting a formal application for a Private Ruling to seek clear guidance on the pressing issue of the Tax Point for VAT.
We remain committed to advocate for a favorable, transparent, and predictable tax environment for the hospitality and tourism sector.
