Chaque année, entre juillet et septembre, les baleines à bosse quittent les eaux froides de l'Antarctique pour venir se reproduire et mettre bas dans les eaux chaudes de Sainte-Marie.

Un adulte peut mesurer jusqu'à 15 mètres et peser près de 30 tonnes, pourtant, elles offrent un ballet étonnamment gracieux à la surface de l'océan Indien.

Pourquoi toujours la même période ?

Elles suivent un cycle migratoire lié à la reproduction : les eaux tropicales de Madagascar offrent une température idéale pour la naissance des baleineaux, loin des prédateurs des eaux polaires.

Le Schetbé roux (Schetba rufa), aussi appelé artamie rousse ou vanga-roux, est un passereau endémique de Madagascar, appartenant à la famille des Vangidae, et largement répandu sur l'île.

De taille moyenne, il se reconnaît à son plumage contrasté mêlant roux, noir et blanc. Le mâle porte un capuchon entièrement noir, tandis que la femelle a une calotte noire et une gorge blanche. On le rencontre en forêt sèche comme en forêt humide, avec une nette préférence pour la première.

Souvent observé immobile, perché à mi-hauteur pendant de longs moments, il peut se montrer agressif envers les autres oiseaux qui pénètrent sur son territoire. Il construit un nid en coupe, généralement bien visible dans la fourche basse d'un arbre. Son chant est un long trille musical descendant.
