Somewhere in the dry forests of Southwest Madagascar…

Here live the Mikea – one of the last communities on the island still deeply connected to a life in and from the forest.

Life follows a rhythm far away from everything we call “modern”.

Only nature.
Only knowledge.
Only what the land provides.

Roots, seeds, fire…
and traditions passed down through generations.

Moments like these are humbling.
They remind us how little we actually need… and how much we have forgotten.

Madagascar is not just a destination.
It is a journey back to the roots of life.

On the remote southwest coast of Madagascar, life follows the rhythm of the sea.

In the Vezo villages, women gently cover their faces with a mask made from tamarind powder and water, protecting their skin from the strong tropical sun.

A simple gesture, passed from mothers to daughters since generations.
No cosmetics , only the wisdom of nature under the shade of tamarind trees where sea breeze carries laughter, stories, and traditions that still live on along the endless horizon of the ocean.

The savannah glows in deep red and gold,
the tall grass illuminated by the sinking sun.
In the distance, table mountains rest quietly,
while ancient baobabs stand majestically —
timeless guardians of the land.

The sky softens into warm pastel colours,
still carrying the scent of rain.
And in the very last light of day,
a rainbow appears.

In Madagascar, beauty doesn’t shout.
It unfolds — gently, powerfully, unforgettable.

On the road, one passes through villages — life unfolding quietly.
People living their daily routines, hands at work, laughter in the dust, moments shared.
To step into a small fragment of their world is a true honour.
A brief glimpse into everyday chores, exchanged with mutual respect.
A fragile pause in the rhythm of the day,
where harmony speaks without words
and love turns a simple encounter into a memory.

The beach — a place to live from what the sea gives.
A place of hardship and survival, especially on days of thunder.
And yet, a place to dream.

A place of peace.
A place to relax, to play, to enjoy.

Here, life is ruled by the tides.
For crabs, the sea becomes a refuge when danger appears.
For others, it offers a home — a newly gifted shell, carried in by the waves.

The sea draws trees and forests into the sand,
only to redraw them again and again with every wave that comes ashore.

And the sea changes colour endlessly —
emerald greens, infinite shades of blue,
soft rose hues in the morning hours,
turning golden when the sun gives way to the moon
and the vast infinity of stars.

The Highlands of Madagascar
Fertile farmland stretches as far as the eye can see. Vegetable gardens and rice fields shape the landscape, changing with the seasons. At times they shimmer golden under the sunlight; at others, they glow in deep brown, red and ochre tones when the fields lie fallow.
In between, beautiful one- or two-storey farmhouses appear, built of brick, often with charming balconies overlooking the land.
