I wasn’t expecting to find my next destination carved into a tree.

Yet there it was.

Sri Lanka.

I came across it the other evening during a sunset walk on Mumbo Island, on my penultimate night in Malawi.

After weeks of travelling through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and finally Malawi, it felt like the perfect way to close one chapter and quietly start thinking about the next.

One thing that still makes me smile? We started drinking Malawi Shandys on our very first days in Namibia, long before I ever crossed into Malawi. Somehow it feels like the journey came full circle.

There are still so many stories from this African adventure I haven’t shared yet, and I can’t wait to take you back through them.

Some days are packed with so many special moments, it’s hard to know where to begin.

Our morning started with a boat ride to Pelican Point. Before we even reached the beach, curious pelicans landed on the boat while seals swam all around us, as if they were there to welcome us.

From there, everyone chose their own adventure. Some headed out on kayaks, others explored the shoreline on foot, and we even spotted a black-backed jackal quietly making its way across the sand.

Then it was time for Sandwich Harbour.

Watching the towering dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean is something I’ll never forget. It’s wild, peaceful and unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been. We were lucky enough to spend time soaking it all in before heading back, already talking about everything we’d experienced in just one day.

Namibia keeps finding new ways to surprise me. I can’t wait to bring another group here❤️

It was one of those days that fills your heart.

The Living Desert Tour showed us a side of Namibia I never expected. At first glance, the desert seems empty. Then suddenly you start noticing life everywhere.

Tiny creatures hidden beneath the sand. Tracks telling stories. Survival in places that seem impossible.

And then I got to see the Namib Desert gecko—the little animal I had secretly been hoping for all along. It was every bit as beautiful as I’d imagined.

We watched a sand avalanche tumble down a dune, met the famous “Desert Ferrari,” and spent hours discovering the small wonders that most people never notice.

Standing there in the silence of the desert, surrounded by so much life, I felt incredibly grateful to be here.

Often the smallest things become the biggest memories.

Namibia, you’re getting under my skin. ❤️

Today wasn’t the Deadvlei most photographers hope for.

Two days after the rain, the clay pan was still wet, clouds covered the sky, and the famous golden light never arrived. No dramatic contrasts. No iconic orange-and-blue color palette.

But travel photography isn’t about recreating postcards.

Instead, we witnessed a rare side of Deadvlei—moody skies, reflections in the wet pan, atmospheric landscapes, and a landscape transformed by recent rain. Moments few visitors ever get to experience.

And as if Namibia wanted to reward our patience, an oryx appeared surprisingly close, giving us one of the highlights of the day. 🦌

Sometimes the best images come from the days that don’t go according to plan.

“Maldives on a budget” sounds like a dream.

It’s not what you think.

Not some cheaper version of a resort…
because the first thing you’ll see isn’t a beach — it’s a construction site and a fishing harbor.

That’s when it clicks.

Until 2009, tourists weren’t even allowed on local islands.

So this isn’t a “budget Maldives”.
It’s real life — with tourism added on top.

A completely different experience.

And yeah… that means you still get crystal clear water, warm ocean, beautiful beaches — just not all the time, and not everywhere.

You’ll also get:
🕌 local life (no alcohol)
🚜 construction
👙🏝️ small designated (bikini) beaches
🪸🐠 reefs that aren’t always in great shape

It’s a weird mix. And that’s exactly why so many people get it wrong.

Some people will love it.
Some people will feel disappointed.

For me, it was still worth it.

Mainly because it’s such an easy add-on to Sri Lanka — and it gives you something Sri Lanka often doesn’t: calm, swimmable beaches.

Just don’t come here expecting a resort.

Eight years ago today, on March 8, I walked out of my corporate office… and a few weeks later I was stacking firewood on a farm in northern Japan. 🌿

The logs were heavier than they looked, my hands were sore, and by the end of the day I could barely feel my arms — not exactly something my office life had prepared me for. 💪

But that was exactly the point.

I didn’t leave to become a farmer or to collect travel highlights. I left to see what would happen if I chose curiosity over comfort for a while.

To step outside the structure of corporate life.
To be humble enough to sleep on a café floor if needed. 🛋️
To trade a keyboard for physical work.
To find out where my limits really were — and how far they could stretch.

That farm stay was when the journey truly began. Not sightseeing, but living. Slower, simpler, closer to people and the world around me.🌏

And somewhere between the wood piles, shared meals and long conversations, I realized: the best journeys start the moment you step outside the life you thought you had to live. ✨

Eight years later, I’m writing this from Sri Lanka, where I now run my own tour business and continue building a life far away from the office I once thought I needed.

Looking back, the biggest limits weren’t practical ones.
Most of them were in my head.

And sometimes I wonder if we’ve been taught to believe that the safe path is the successful one.

Maybe the real freedom is simply having the courage to choose your own path — even when it doesn’t make sense on paper.✨
