Tulip season is here again! 🌷
Even though we see it every year, it never loses its magic. Visiting the blooming bulb fields feels just as special to us as it does to our guests.

These photos were taken at the Tulip Experience, where special fields are created for visitors to walk among the flowers and capture that perfect shot. Please remember: the regular fields you see all around the region are working farms, and walking through them damages the farmers’ crops - so please don't do that 🩷

Happy birthday to us!!! Today exactly 10 years ago, Amsterdam Odyssey was born 🐣What an amazing journey! Starting and developing a concept in which we - Hanneke and I - truly believed. Two years of forced sabbatical, which led to a career change for Hanneke and left me as the sole owner of the company. Gathering a wonderful team, forming our small collective together. It's been wonderful and it still is - we are looking forward to welcoming and guiding so many more people in and around our beloved Amsterdam! 💐

Here's one of Huibert's favorites!

One of my favorite spots in Amsterdam is the ‘Oudemanhuispoort’, the ‘Old Men’s Home Gate’. It’s a passageway with shop stalls that were installed there in 1757. They were intended for all kinds of trade, but when nearby market square Rembrandtplein was redeveloped in 1876, the booksellers there took possession of these cabinets, and since then it has been a book and picture market.

Strolling around here is one of my favorite pastimes. It’s a beautiful, intimate setting and there is always a discovery to make for book nerds like me. The booksellers you find here are usually retirees, and I can quite picture myself becoming one of them when I’ve reached a certain age…

But until then I’m always happy to show visitors this little gem during one of the Amsterdam Odyssey tours.

Here's one of Paola's favorites!

A few years ago, I visited Armenia and, to my surprise, the History Museum in Yerevan had on display an Armenian version of the Bible printed in Amsterdam in 1668. How did that happen? Why was it printed in Amsterdam, so far from here, I wondered.

Then, some time later, while strolling along one of the most picturesque canals in Amsterdam, I stumbled upon an Armenian church. That can’t be a coincidence, I thought. That moment led me to the story of an Armenian archbishop who had been sent on a secret mission to Europe by the Armenian religious authorities. His goal was to print something that, in the 17th century, only the tolerant city of Amsterdam would have allowed.

This is what I love most about guiding in this city: a discreet building on a quiet canal that reveals a fascinating story spanning centuries and continents—a small detail that helps us connect the dots of history.

And here's one of Carolina's personal favorites:

One of my favorite hidden spots in Amsterdam is the stunning Research Library inside the Rijksmuseum.

While most visitors come for Rembrandt and Vermeer, few discover this quiet, breathtaking space. With its spiral staircases and endless shelves, it feels like stepping into another century.

A true hidden gem in the heart of the museum. As the architect of the museum, Pierre Cuypers, wrote : “We have two eyes and one mouth so we should read more than we speak.” A perfect advice 🙂

Diana's favorite:
Hidden inside a 17th-century canal house in Amsterdam lies a secret church: Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder — Our Lord in the Attic.
At a time when Catholic worship was forbidden in public after the Reformation, believers gathered here in silence. Behind an ordinary façade, they built something extraordinary: a complete church in an attic.
What moves me most about this place is not only the secrecy, but the courage. When people truly believe in something, they find a way. Even in restriction. Even in risk.
And instead of hiding in darkness, they created beauty.
This hidden church reminds me that faith — in God, in hope, in what we deeply hold true — can survive quietly… and still shine.
Sometimes, the most powerful stories are hidden just above our heads. ✨

What do we do in our winter break? First resting after a busy season 😉 Then preparing for the next one 😃 and introducing you to some of our favorite places!

Eva's favorite:
I spend a good part of winter in my partner's hometown in the Bulb Region, world famous for the Keukenhof and endless fields of flowers in spring. It's wonderful to hike along the fields in each season, watching the farmers at work and seeing the bulbs go through their entire growing cycle. Do you see the first daffodils popping up?! And tulips for sale at the roadside vending stall right on the farm. So Dutch, of course - we just cycle over and grab a bunch on our way home. 💐
