Planning a winter road trip? It's worth knowing that weather can occasionally impact travel—especially in the South Island between June and October.

🏔️ North Island
Road closures are less common, but snow and ice can still affect:
• SH1 Desert Road
• SH5 Napier–Taupō Road
• SH2 Remutaka Hill

🏔️ South Island
The South Island experiences more frequent winter road closures, particularly on alpine routes and mountain passes:
• Crown Range Road
• Lindis Pass
• Milford Road
• Arthur's Pass
• Porters Pass
• Lewis Pass
• Mackenzie Country Highways (including the road to Aoraki / Mt Cook)

While these routes are not closed all winter, snow, ice, and severe weather can cause temporary closures, delays, or chain requirements throughout the season.
