Manakau School

Manakau School Welcome to Manakau School's page. This page is to promote and share information and events about our school. Deb Logan

At Manakau School we encourage involvement from our parents and whanau. Please accept this as a genuine invitation to become closely involved with the daily life and adventures of Manakau School (Deb Logan-Principal). We are a decile six school with children enrolled from New Entrants to Year 8, set in spacious grounds, featuring magnificent century-old trees, and a developing edible organic garde

n. Manakau School consists of four well-resourced classes, two of which are in the well preserved 'Old Block' which was built in 1888. Our School's motto is 'Personal Best Always' and an emphasis is placed on developing sound educational programmes based on the NZ National Curriculum. Teachers develop programmes where 'Learning is Fun', and 'Exciting things happen!', themes which underpin the entire learning and teaching programme. Manakau School's Values are Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence. These support our schools Vision Statement "To provide a safe environment where learning is stimulating, supported and fun, and where our children are encouraged to achieve to their fullest potential, academically, socially and physically." We currently operate an enrollment scheme, a detailed description and map of the zone can be obtained from the school office.

Awesome for our Road Patrollers to be acknowledged for their mahi!

It was great to visit Manakau School yesterday alongside Constable Fala Matua, our Horowhenua School Community Officer, to thank and recognise the school’s road patrol team.

We spent time with 10 student road patrollers, acknowledging the care, confidence, and responsibility they show every day in helping keep their fellow tamariki safe before and after school. These young leaders really step up for others, and it’s something to be proud of.
When we visited today, we also dropped off drink bottles and umbrellas to support the great work they do in keeping tamariki safe before and after school.

With lots of tamariki heading back to school, we all have a part to play. Slow down, stay alert, and watch out for our kids on the roads - especially near schools.

As families settle into the new school term, I encourage all drivers to take extra care during busy drop-off and pick-up times. Road patrols are supported by schools, families and their communities, and they play a vital role in keeping tamariki safe and building lifelong road safety habits.

Looking forward to seeing some enthusiastic helpers tomorrow 🪏🧤☀️

Details below ⬇️

🌿 Freshwater Funding for a Local Riparian Planting Project

Waikawa Beach Environment Group is pleased to share that we’ve received Freshwater Funding from Horizons Regional Council. This is to support a one-year riparian planting project on a section of land along the Waikawa Stream.

This project has been made possible thanks to the support of Ngāti Wehi Wehi and local landowners Caroline and Te Roera, who are generously opening part of their property for restoration planting.

With this funding, WBEG has been able to purchase a range of native plants specifically suited to riparian restoration — an investment that will help strengthen streambanks, improve shade, and enhance habitat over time.

Riparian planting is one of the most effective and practical ways communities can care for waterways, and we’re grateful to be working alongside our local iwi and landowners to support this shared goal.

🧤 Community Site Preparation and Planting Day

We’d love some extra hands to help with getting the site prepared and planting.

🗓 Saturday 6 December
⏰ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
📍 Caroline and Te Roera’s property, 554 Waikawa Beach Road

The mahi will be light and suitable for most abilities. Bring gloves, spade, hat, water, sunscreen, sturdy footwear and some kai to share.

Parking on Waikawa Beach Road - please park safely on the berm.

Watch the Waikawa Beach Environment Group page https://www.facebook.com/WaikawaBeachEnvironmentGroup? for weather updates

💚 Working Together for a Healthy Stream

Waikawa Stream is an important taonga for our community. This project is a chance for locals, landowners, and Horizons to come together to enhance an area that benefits everyone — people, plants, birdlife, and the wider environment.
