Details below ⬇️
🌿 Freshwater Funding for a Local Riparian Planting Project
Waikawa Beach Environment Group is pleased to share that we’ve received Freshwater Funding from Horizons Regional Council. This is to support a one-year riparian planting project on a section of land along the Waikawa Stream.
This project has been made possible thanks to the support of Ngāti Wehi Wehi and local landowners Caroline and Te Roera, who are generously opening part of their property for restoration planting.
With this funding, WBEG has been able to purchase a range of native plants specifically suited to riparian restoration — an investment that will help strengthen streambanks, improve shade, and enhance habitat over time.
Riparian planting is one of the most effective and practical ways communities can care for waterways, and we’re grateful to be working alongside our local iwi and landowners to support this shared goal.

💚 Working Together for a Healthy Stream
Waikawa Stream is an important taonga for our community. This project is a chance for locals, landowners, and Horizons to come together to enhance an area that benefits everyone — people, plants, birdlife, and the wider environment.
