Omega Centauri is the largest globular cluster in the milky way galaxy and visible with the naked eye high overhead early in the evening through NZ winter, not far from Māhutonga, the Southern Cross. Friday's lunar eclipse from Castlepoint. It was beautiful seeing it already red at sunset rather than after dark. Some of our local sunset contributed to the redness of the 'blood moon', since the color is caused by all the sunsets around the earth scattering the blue light away and allowing more of the warmer colours to pass through onto the moon. Eventually we hope that Castlepoint will be included in the expansion of Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve.

We're thrilled to be running our popular stargazing experiences amongst the lavender Ranui Essentials Lavender Farm once again this summer. There will be private stargazing nights limited to 30 guests and two nights of up to 200 entrants where you can wander through the lavender, pick a spot to relax, casually take a look through our telescope, or even bring your own. We're giving it a try tonight at Luna Estate. Forecast is for skies to clear this afternoon so we'll be showing off our glorious dark sky reserve right beside Eclipse Restaurant at Luna. Stargazing starts at 7.30. We'll be on the circular lawn area below the restaurant at 7.15pm for check in. There's even a chance of some aurora activity tonight ⭐
