A hot air balloon has successfully completed a test flight in Naran, one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s most popular tourist destinations.

The balloon reached an altitude of around 8,000 feet above sea level during the test, offering visitors an aerial view of the scenic Naran Valley.

The balloon can accommodate up to five people at a time and is being operated by professional experts trained in Turkey.

The test is part of efforts to introduce new tourism and adventure activities in the region and provide visitors with additional ways to experience northern Pakistan’s mountain landscapes.

A similar hot air balloon test was conducted last year at Basiya, Balakot, another tourist and historical location in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The successful Naran test could pave the way for the introduction of hot air balloon rides as a new attraction for tourists visiting the area.

Pakistani Women Make History with Spantik Peak Summit

Four trailblazing women mountaineers from Gilgit-Baltistan have reached the summit of Spantik Peak, standing at 7,027 metres in the Baltistan region — a remarkable achievement for women's mountaineering in Pakistan.

The team — Shama Baqir, Samana Rahim, Zooni Aslam, and Zaiba Batool Shigri — completed the challenging ascent together, marking a milestone moment for female climbers from the region.

Among them, Zaiba Batool Shigri carved out a special place in history as the first woman from Shigar to summit a peak exceeding 7,000 metres.

Shama Baqir and Samana Rahim hail from Shimshal, a village in Hunza renowned for producing some of Pakistan's finest mountaineers. Zooni Aslam comes from Gulmit, also in Hunza, further cementing the region's reputation as a cradle of climbing talent.

This successful expedition adds to the growing list of achievements by Pakistani women in high-altitude mountaineering, inspiring a new generation of climbers across Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan generated over Rs. 1.83 billion from Markhor and Ibex trophy hunting between 2023 and 2025, according to data shared by the Ministry of Climate Change in the Senate.

Balochistan recorded Rs. 760 million, Gilgit-Baltistan over Rs. 620 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs. 447.8 million, and Sindh around Rs. 3.1 million. Under the current policy, 80% of hunting revenue goes to local communities, while 20% is allocated to provincial wildlife departments.

However, the ministry revealed that no central mechanism exists to independently audit how community funds are distributed, raising concerns over financial transparency and oversight.
