DAY 6 | Les Haudères – Rifugio Prarayer 🇨🇭➡️🇮🇹
The longest and toughest day of the whole trek 💥
11 hours on the trail, 20 km, 1200 m up and down – through thick fog, snow patches, loose rock, and what’s left of the Collon Glacier (3087 m) ❄️🪨
No huts. No signal. Just pure focus and grit.
The descent? Full of steep drops and fixed chains to keep things interesting 🔗⛰️
But the reward? Crossing into Italy on foot – pure joy 🇮🇹🙌
One of the wildest and most epic mountain days I’ve ever had.

DAY 5: ZINAL – LES HAUDÈRES
Start: Lac de Moiry 🏞️
Distance: 15 km | ⏱️ ~8h | ⬆️ +700 m / ⬇️ –1450 m
Highest point: Col de Torrent (2916 m) 🏔️
Overnight: Hotel in Les Haudères 🛏️
We woke up to a picture-perfect morning at Lac de Moiry – the icy turquoise lake mirrored the first rays of sunlight, while everything around us was still and silent, save for the gentle whisper of the wind. We set off early, knowing that today would be one of the most demanding stages – and that we’d be crossing the highest point of this section: Col de Torrent (2916 m). ⛰️
The ascent was steady, first winding through lush alpine meadows 🌿, then giving way to a stony, rugged landscape. The final stretch to the pass was tough, but the views from the top made every step worth it. Behind us, Lac de Moiry shimmered in the distance, and ahead – an endless sea of majestic Pennine Alps. 🌄
The descent toward Les Haudères felt like a whole different world – long, steep, and technically challenging. The trail took us through wide pastures 🐄, tight switchbacks, and sleepy hamlets where time seemed to stand still. Our knees were feeling it by the end, but after several hours on the trail, we arrived – tired but elated – in the charming village of Les Haudères. 🏘️
The evening was all about well-earned rest, hearty alpine food 🧀🍷, and reflecting on the raw beauty and power of these mountains. A day to remember.

📌 DAY 4 – GRUBEN ➡️ ZINAL A rugged and wild stage 🏞️The longest day so far – 9+ hours on the trail! 🏔️ Meidpass (2790 m) – the highest point of the day. The views? The absolute wildness of the Alps! 📉 Start from Gruben (1680 m), a steep climb, then a long descent to Zinal 📏 20 km 📈 ⬆️ 1200 m 📉 ⬇️ 1350 m 🕓 Time: 9+ hours on the trail 🌬️ Silence, rocky trails, no people. Just us and the mountains. Zinal welcomes you after a hard day – your knees feel every meter of the descent 😅

Things are starting to get challenging. Day 3 of our Tour du Matterhorn: St. Niklaus -> Gruben. We’ll start by cable car up to 1998 m above sea level. Let’s head out over rocky terrain 🏞️ - 976 m ⬆️ 1075 m ⬇️ - 13 km - 7 h Highest point: Augstbordpass 2894 m The weather is spoiling us - 21 degrees at 2000 m, with plenty of sunshine 🌞

Continue our hike around the iconic mountain. This is just the beginning of approximately 150 km of incredible views, Alpine valleys, and hanging glaciers! 🐐 In the Zermatt region, you can spot... Valais Blackneck goats! They’re a local pride – they look like something out of a fairy tale and often pose for photos with tourists 😍

Day 1: Zermatt – Europahütte

The first day of the hike begins in Zermatt – the heart of the Swiss Alps, overlooking the majestic Matterhorn. The trail gradually ascends through alpine meadows, forests, and rocky slopes, offering increasingly spectacular views. Along the way, we pass most of the mountain and a dangerous suspension high above the valley, providing a solid dose of adrenaline.
The highest point is at 2348 m above sea level, offering panoramic views of peaks and summits. After about eight hours of walking, we reached Europahütte, a mountain hut nestled in a rugged but beautiful landscape. It’s the perfect place to rest and relax before the trekking section begins.
