We are very proud of Glowing Northwoods Cinder who got it done again today on a deer recovery. We got a call from our friend Doug at Big Pine Guide Service, LLC last night. He had wounded a deer and asked if Cinder our blood tracking dog was available. We headed over and Cinder tracked 3/4 of a mile, we were finding beds so a decision was made to give the deer more time to lay down, we marked last blood and shot a bearing to the road. We reconvened this morning and made our way back to last blood. Cinder reconnected with the track making quick work of the final quarter mile. She located the deer and Doug was able to dispatch the doe and the recovery began! Congratulations Doug and thanks for calling us! Have fun chasing the bucks this week! Thanks also to our friend Tag Bragdon who came along and held last blood as we moved forward on the track this morning !!

Congratulations to one of our favorite friends KJ on this smasher! Way to get it done KJ!!!

Danielle was teaching others how to hunt long before becoming a guide. This is her daughter Lauren. Lauren was 10 years old when she was drawn for a bull tag in zone 7.

What a hunt it was. Scouting took place all summer. Lauren had been shooting and sighted in a R***r .44 carbine for this hunt, packed with some special handloads made by a friend of the family John Wilson.

Lauren was told not to take a shot she wasn’t comfortable taking. On the opening evening of the hunt the party located a massive bull. Everyone waited for Lauren to shoot but the shot never came. When asked why. Lauren stated she could only see the moose’s head and did not feel comfortable with the shot.

No one argued that logic and all went back to camp.

The next few days were early mornings lots of calling and long days with no moose sightings. On the 4th morning in a driving rain they encountered a nice bull. This time there was no hesitation and Lauren took aim and fired. The bull weighed in at 844 lbs and had a 54 inch spread.

The moment was a very special moment shared with Lauren, Danielle, and Lauren’s grandfather (Danielle’s Father) Gary.

If you’re looking for a guide with a lot of experience teaching younger people or engaging families you’ve come to the right place. We know how because we’ve lived it!

When we launched the page we said we might share some interesting stories about founder Danielle. Her last name used to be Lord (that’s not the story). In 2002 she baited her own bait sites in the Western mountains in Maine. She shot this bruin over her bait. This bear weighed in at 442 lbs dressed weight.

The skull scored 19 7/16 (5th in the state that year) and is listed in the 2002 Maine Antler and Skull Trophy Club Publication. Hard to believe that was 23 years ago!

Frank called us last night after arrowing a deer, he had searched, found blood, but couldn’t find the deer. We rolled out this morning with Glowing Northwoods Cinder who has been training all summer for this moment. She tracked this deer approximately 300 yards, crossing a brook twice. So glad we could help. We are licensed dog trackers if you need help recovering a wounded animal give us a call!

Help I need a tracking Dog!!!!

Shots fired. Saturday evening at 5:50pm I shot a Doe, I had a really good blood trail. With only a half hour of daylight I got to excited and took right off after her. Yup about 50 yards away I hear a deer take off. I look around for a few minutes and decide I need to get better flashlights and some spare batteries. I also reach out to a few people to come help me look for her. So three of use go trudging through the woods for 3 1/2 hours looking for her. We find the bed where she laid down. We track her for 200 yards, at the end we are finding match tip size drops of blood every 10-50 feet. Don’t forget in the dark with flashlights. We decide that we might as well go home and come back in the morning. So during this time I had reached out to Glowing Northwoods Guide Service, I mentioned to Danielle Lea that I could use a hand if she had some time available in the morning. We were able to set up a time to go look in the morning.

Here we go. Danielle meets me at my secret hunting spot!! We walk in to where the last blood was found. An hour later I hear I found her, GOOD GIRL CINDER. Glowing Northwoods Cinder was awesome. Don’t forget 3 people walked around in circles for an hour in this spot 13 hours earlier. I’m thinking im glad they are here looking for me but I pretty much did everything wrong I didn’t wait before tracking and I walked all around ruining the trail.

Glowing Northwoods Cinder and Glowing Northwoods Guide Service. Thank you very much.

What an epic day we had. The morning started with the Glowing Northwoods Crew (including Boone) hitting the covers. We flushed grouse but couldn’t connect. Boone and Adam had to break away at 1:00 PM due to family commitments something we totally understand.

The afternoon was epic. Kevin connected for a double over Glowing Northwoods Cinder (for those who don’t know what that means… Cinder pointed a covey and Kevin was able to drop two of them on the wing) ! Great wing shooting Kevin!!

We had 11 flushes (we only count different birds) with Kevins double putting two in the bag.

We finished with a grand finale bear who ran down the road on our way back to camp. If youd like to experience the Western Mountains of Maine. Give us a call!

We are excited to announce that the Glowing Northwoods Guide Service page is up and running.

Last fall owner and founder Danielle Murphy completed the dream of obtaining her Maine Guides License as a Hunting and Recreation Guide. Danielle has a lifetime of experience in the Maine woods hunting, recreating, and fishing. She has personally harvested bear, moose, deer, turkey, and specializes in hunting over versatile hunting dogs. Danielle has personally trained her 3 Wirehaired Pointing Griffons and looks forward to helping others enjoy all the Western Mountains of Maine has to offer.

Please stay tuned as we build up the page. We may have some fun sharing some photos and stories from Danielles prior hunts. We think you may be surprised to learn about some of her adventures and harvests.

If you are interested in booking a hunt with us give us a call or shoot us a message to discuss!
