Maine Primitive

Maine Primitive https://linktr.ee/maineprimitive Founded by Naked and Afraid survivor Michael Douglas, Maine Primitive teaches ancestral skills, survival, and Earth Living.

We globally help people reconnect to land, instinct, and community through hands-on experience. The Maine Primitive Skills School is a wilderness survival school located on 23 wooded acres in Augusta, Maine. Our goal is to reconnect people to ancient technologies and to themselves. We teach primitive skills, survival skills, wilderness survival, modern survival, bushcraft, native awareness, wildli

fe tracking, earth living, shelter building, water collection & purification, friction fire making, bow making, flintknapping, wild edibles, hide tanning, scout skills, primitive hunting, earth philosophy, drum making, survival trapping, and more. We are a group dedicated to reconnecting ourselves and others to our ancestral roots through skills that have been practiced for two million years. Primitive skills connect us to what is meaningful and real and dispel the illusions created by modern society. Through our odyssey we have become a teaching community that continues to grow and celebrate new members each time we gather for a class. Wilderness Survival and Earth skills may be what we teach, but they really teach us how to be a family once again. We invite you to become part of our tribe by walking through our door. Be warned: these primitive skills will change you. You will not see the world in the same way nor will you be able to return to the place from whence you came. We welcome you to our Survival School. Nature Awareness, Tracking & Bird Language
September 26 – September 30, 2026

Four weeks out, students often begin preparing to shift their attention inward and outward at once. This course strengthens your ability to read the present moment without rushing past it. You will learn to understand trails, soundscapes, and landscape patterns as living information. This is awareness training that affects everything else you do outdoors.

Tangible Skills You Will Develop
• Differentiating true bird alarms from everyday calls
• Following fresh trails with accuracy and confidence
• Recognizing signs of predator presence through silence and movement
• Building pattern recognition through repeated observation
• Learning the “shape” of the land through contour and cover
• Connecting small details into a unified field awareness
• Interpreting landscape behavior during the season shift
• Sitting in stillness to observe longer-term forest rhythms

This is a course people say permanently changed how they see the woods.

• Field medicine: salves, tinctures, decoctions, poultices
• Bark, resin, and fiber harvesting for tools
