Fiona Dalton Experience:
Tlachtga is the sacred hill outside Athboy where Halloween began as the Samhain Festival. Professional storyteller Fiona Dalton brings the Goddess Tlachtga to life in both a stage performance and a living history walking tour.
Samhain is an ancient Celtic festival that lasts for days during which time feasts, rituals, costumes and fire are used to communicate with people and animals that have passed, but to also ward off the dark spirits because the veil between worlds can be breached.
Walking tour section
We will have a private one-woman live performance with Fiona near the fairy fort at Fair Green in Athboy, a town seeped in Halloween tradition. She will be in character and costume of the goddess who is called Tlachtga and where over the course of an hour will tell you all about her story and the history of Halloween. The talk will include the story of the Hill Of Ward outside of the town where the first Samhain fires were lit, how Halloween developed to become the world's second most celebrated festival after Christmas and how Celtic mythology has shaped Ireland past and present.
Malahide Castle:
King Henry II gifted Richard Talbot the lands and harbor of Malahide for his services to the crown in 1185. From that point on, the Talbot family became intertwined with Malahide’s history and development.
A magnificent fortress with a long and dramatic history, and a few resident ghosts Reports of spooky sightings go back as long as the castle’s 800-year history; hardly surprising when you consider the tales of battles, bloodshed and broken hearts surrounding this medieval building.
Some of these ghosts are connected to real historical figures that lived here while others are of more mysterious origin. One of the most famous ghostly residents is court jester Puck. Unlucky in love, Puck continues to nurse a broken heart in the turret where he used to live. You may also have heard of the lady in white; a female apparition who wanders the rooms and corridors of the castle.
Plenty of visitors have reported encounters with these specters – will you be next?!
You can also visit the Butterfly Garden while there, and there is also a Fairy Garden for you to stroll through. Rumors and legends surround these mystical magical places in Ireland. You can find fairy trails, fairy trees and fairy gardens all over Ireland. It takes a special eye to spot these magical locations.
