The Milkyway rising over Sand Beach & the Great Head in Acadia National Park, Maine โจ๐๐

Despite being surrounded by granite cliffs and rocky shoreline, Sand Beach is a naturally formed sandy beach made primarily of crushed shell fragments from marine life such as mussels, barnacles, sea urchins, and snails. The small cove helps trap and hold the sediment, allowing the beach to exist along a coastline that is otherwise dominated by exposed rock. Even during summer, the Atlantic water here usually remains cold.
Rising directly beside the beach, Great Head is a granite peninsula shaped by glacial movement and long-term coastal erosion. The headland extends into the Atlantic and provides elevated views of Sand Beach, the surrounding cliffs, and the open ocean. The trail across Great Head follows rugged terrain above the shoreline and is one of the oldest hiking routes in Acadia.
