POV: you flew to the other side of the world and found the most underrated boutique hotel in New Zealand.
Porters Boutique Hotel sits right in the village of Havelock North, in the heart of Hawke's Bay wine country on the North Island. Think Napa Valley, but quieter, greener, and somehow even more beautiful.
The suite has a full separate living room, dining area, kitchenette, walk-in wardrobe, and a bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub. It's the kind of room you check into and immediately cancel your sightseeing plans.

Step into Japan's spiritual heart through three of its most iconic religious landmarks, each offering a unique glimpse into the country's history, culture, and traditions.

Sensō-ji Temple
Located in the historic district of Asakusa, Sensō-ji is Tokyo’s oldest and most celebrated temple. Dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of compassion, it has welcomed visitors for centuries as a place of worship and cultural significance. The temple is renowned for its striking traditional Japanese architecture, featuring beautifully crafted wooden structures that reflect Japan’s rich heritage.
Visitors enter through the iconic Kaminarimon, or “Thunder Gate,” instantly recognizable by its massive red lantern. Another standout landmark is the Gojū-no-tō, the five-story pagoda, which symbolizes the five elements of Buddhist philosophy: earth, water, fire, wind, and sky. Together, these landmarks make Senso-ji one of Tokyo’s most recognizable and treasured attractions.

Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine
Located in Kyoto, Fushimi Inari Taisha is the head shrine dedicated to Inari, the Shinto kami of rice, prosperity, and agriculture. One of Japan’s most iconic landmarks, the shrine is renowned for its thousands of vibrant vermilion torii gates that form winding pathways up the slopes of Mount Inari. As visitors walk through these seemingly endless gates, they are immersed in a unique spiritual and cultural experience. Throughout the shrine grounds, fox statues can be found guarding the pathways, as foxes are believed to be the sacred messengers of Inari. The striking torii tunnels and mountain setting make Fushimi Inari Taisha one of Kyoto’s most recognizable and visited attractions.

Kinkaku-ji Temple
Kinkaku-ji, commonly known as the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto’s most famous landmarks. Originally built as a retirement villa for a sh**un before being converted into a Zen Buddhist temple, the pavilion is renowned for its upper floors being covered in brilliant gold leaf.
Set beside a tranquil reflecting pond and surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, Kinkaku-ji creates a stunning scene in every season. Its shimmering golden exterior, mirrored in the water below, has made it one of Japan’s most iconic and photographed cultural treasures.
