Fall foliage is great, but have you tried making a whole day out of chasing it? 🍂

The Quest 📍 Devil’s Courthouse
This short (but steep!) hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway rewards you with panoramic long range mountain views and a front-row seat to fall color. It's a few uphill minutes for a whole lot of wow. If you're not feeling the burn, there's still a stunning view from the overlook with no hike required.

The Side Quest 📍 Headwaters Outfitters Outdoor Adventures + Forks of the River Taproom
After your hike, take the scenic route down Hwy 215 and do a little early holiday shopping for outdoor gear, local finds, and adventure essentials at Headwaters Outfitters. Then head over to Forks of the River Taproom to wrap up the day with a cold drink. Because every good quest deserves a side quest.

Two exciting updates happened this month!

🙌 Exciting Update Number One
The Graveyard Fields Upper Falls Connector Trail is now open! This opens up additional parking at the View of John Rock overlook along the parkway to access the Graveyard Fields area.

Park at the overlook, safely cross the parkway, and access Graveyard Fields from the new Upper Falls Connector Trail. There are not maps/signage yet at the new trailhead, so stop by the Graveyard Fields overlook for trail maps or look up directions ahead of time.

The Pisgah Conservancy celebrated the opening in an October 6 ribbon cutting in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway, the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the National Park Service. This project is a part of the longer-term Graveyard Fields Restoration Project.

Graveyard Fields is one of the first places to show fall color near Transylvania County, so it's a great time for a visit! As a popular leaf peeping location you'll likely be sharing the trails with other visitors, consider taking an early morning or weekday adventure and make sure to Leave It Better than you found it.

🙌 Exciting update Number Two
Davidson River Campground reopened in early October! After repairs from damage after Hurricane Helene, visitors are welcomed back with new amenities like water bottle filling stations, a new bathhouse and showers, and more dump station facilities. Reservations available on recreation.gov and kudos to Naventure at Pisgah National Forest and WheelHouse for a beautiful job on the renovations.
