Sitting majestically in a man made lagoon on the banks of the Kedayan River is the Omar Ali Saifuddien mosque.
It is one of the most striking religious landmarks in the far East.
It's a national gem blending heritage with spirituality amidst the skyline of Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.
Innovatively designed by the 28th Sultan of the same name, it fuses Mughal elements with renaissance architecture.
Its iconic main dome features over 3.5 million glass mosaic pieces adorned with real gold leaf, and its minaret are made of marble.
It stands tall at 171ft, and there is an elevator that can take visitors right to the top for a panoramic view of the city. Much of the materials used in its interior were imported from Italy, Shanghai, England & Saudi Arabia.
Visitors are always captivated by the ceremonial stone barge floating beside the mosque commemorating the 1400th anniversary of the revelation of the Quran , which was completed in 1967.
