As we head into the long weekend, we'd like to share these words of reflection from Taylor Lentz, President of MERGE:

"Memorial Day is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the lives selflessly given in its defense. As someone who has lost fellow service members overseas, this day carries a deeply personal weight. We honor their sacrifice not just in words, but through our actions, our service, and our unity. Their legacy lives on in how we choose to lead, remember, and uplift one another."

Taylor leads MERGE, Sonepar's employee resource group for the military community. MERGE is organizing volunteers to place American flags at gravesites in national cemeteries this weekend, and associates and family members who'd like to volunteer are encouraged to reach out to Taylor and the MERGE board of directors to find events near them.

For a community non-profit, lower energy costs mean more funds can go towards their mission.

Through our Bright Lights Brighter Futures program, we’re completing LED lighting upgrades for 13 non-profits across the U.S., each one nominated by .

These organizations provide critical services in areas like rehabilitation, prevention of child abuse, support of domestic violence survivors, and services for disabled children and adults. Energy-efficient LED lighting lowers their energy bills and improves the safety and appearance of their facility.

Thank you to Cooper lighting for donating up to $5,000 in lighting fixtures for non-profits nominated by Cooper Electric, Echo Electric, Irby Utilities, NorthEast Electrical, and QED Electric and to the local installers who donated their time and expertise!

Many thanks to Acuity Inc. for donating up to $5,000 each in energy-efficient lighting fixtures to non-profits nominated by .

Through our Bright Lights Brighter Futures program, we’re completing LED lighting upgrades for 13 non-profits across the U.S., improving their facilities while lowering their monthly energy bills.

Acuity's generous donation supported LED retrofits for organizations nominated by Capital Electric, World Electric Supply, Crawford Electric Supply, Viking Electric, Codale Electric Supply, North Coast Electric Company, and OneSource Distributors.

These non-profits offer shelter and food, services for at-risk youth and survivors of domestic violence, and help recovering from addiction.

At last week, we were proud to celebrate 14 Sonepar associates who became Lighting Certified this year! Colleen Harper of the Illuminating Engineering Society presented the official LC lapel pins to our honorees at a special breakfast.

Through the Sonepar Lighting Academy managed by Marc Hodges, LC and Bob Preston, LC, our associates build their lighting knowledge in preparation for the rigorous certification exam. We're glad to see that their hard work paid off!

Congratulations to Andy Waring, President Central Region at Sonepar USA, on receiving the Distributor Distinguished Service Award from National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED)! The award will be presented at the National Meeting on May 21.

Andy has been a force at for 35 years. He began his career in finance at Irby Electric (now Crawford Electric Supply). He rose through the ranks over the years, orchestrating critical acquisitions to expand our footprint in the central region. Andy's influence goes beyond the business; his mentorship and encouragement have shaped many associates' careers. Congratulations to Bob Preston on earning a Lifetime Achievement Award from EdisonReport! 👏👏👏 The award recognizes individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the industry throughout their careers. 💡

Bob is a Lighting Solutions Specialist who has been with Capital Electric for 37 years. He calls becoming a lighting specialist the "best move I ever made."

As co-leader of Sonepar's Lighting Academy, Bob shares his passion, enthusiasm, and extensive knowledge with associates who choose to pursue a career track in lighting. He's also hosted popular lighting seminars for associates and customers for many years.

"One of the most enjoyable parts of my job is the opportunity to share lighting knowledge through training and education," he shared.

Bob is also heavily involved with the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). Sonepar became the first electrical distributor with a Champion-level partnership with IES in 2024.

Stacy has served as President Viking Electric, a Sonepar company, for eight years and will continue leading the company until her successor is appointed.
