The rocking chairs are already facing the right direction. A lantern's lit before it's even dark out. Somewhere inside, a chess game's been going since lunch, nobody in a rush to finish it — and by the fireplace, the blankets are already out, waiting for the sun to drop a little further.

This is the part of a cabin trip nobody plans for and everybody remembers. Not the itinerary. This.

There’s a specific kind of quiet that shows up in the mountains right around now.

The air gets a little sharper. The light turns gold earlier in the day. And somewhere on the ridge, one tree has already started to turn — the first one, before the rest catch up.
