Passport book is needed to fly internationally.
Nice to have the card for a 2nd ID or driving across Canada or Mexico.

Do you know the difference between a passport book and a passport card? The U.S. passport book is the only document approved for international AIR travel. The passport card costs less, but can only be used at U.S. land and sea border crossings. Both can be used as a Real ID for domestic travel. You can apply for a passport book and card on the same passport application. Learn more at travel.state.gov/passport

Wondering if you qualify for online passport renewal? Here are the key requirements:
✅The passport you are renewing is/was valid for 10 years, and you are age 25 or older.
✅ Your passport is either expiring within one year or has expired less than five years ago.
✅ You live in the United States (either state or territory).
✅ Your most recent passport is in your possession and was never reported as lost or stolen.
✅ You are comfortable paying online and uploading your own passport photo.

Online renewal is easy but be sure you do not have international travel planned in less than 6 weeks.

REMINDER!
If you renew your passport online, your current passport is immediately canceled when you submit your application. That means you cannot use it for international travel. Only renew your passport online if you have no travel planned for the next 6 weeks.
