Before there were roads into Montana, there was the Missouri River and Fort Benton was at the end of it.
In the 1860s, steamboats lined this levee for over a mile. Everything that built Montana Territory came off those ships. For two decades, Fort Benton was the most important port in the American Northwest. The nation’s innermost port. The gateway to everything west of St. Louis.
This is just one chapter of a town with more history than most people know where to start. Come find the rest of it.

The Grand Union has been on the riverfront since 1882. Today it’s home to a farm to table restaurant, historic bar, and rooms looking out over the Missouri.

There are newer hotels in Montana, but none of them feel like this. Book your stay. Link in bio.
