This 150 miles section of river located in the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument in north-central Montana, is truly a special and beautiful place. Little has changed since people first came into this magical area. We know the history of this land, the river, and the people, as it has been written in books. But more importantly, we have a knowledge of the unpublished stories, oral histo

ries and folklore of the area. We know each bend, island, and river bottom along the Wild and Scenic Upper Missouri, and the history and lore associated with those sites. Whether your interests are in Lewis & Clark, the Fur and Robe Trade era & the Forts of the Upper Missouri, or Steam boating and that era's many colorful characters, or this area's earliest inhabitants....... we know the history and we can show you the places where history was made.

As a female-run, female-owned business, we know what a girls trip can do for the soul. That’s exactly why we added one to the schedule.

Think contagious laughter, glamping under the stars, and the kind of camaraderie that only happens when you get the right women together on the water.

Come find your people. August 27–30 spots are limited!

Introducing the newest member of the Missouri River Outfitters Crew, Jayber!

He completed his first river trip on a guide training run last week, and we are pleased to report he is showing real promise. He excels in the arts of getting his hands dirty, passenger princess energy, contagious laughter, epic snack attacks, and somehow out-packed everyone on the boat.

In all seriousness, bringing a kid in the world came with a big goal: to raise him in the environments we ourselves value. To teach him how important our public lands truly are.

Missouri River Outfitters demands a lot of our time and energy, and so does Jayber, frankly more so. But, watching the two grow up together might just be the best thing we’ve ever planned. Cheers to you buddy! First of many river trips complete!

If only we had the time to explore every one of these carved into the land along the river.

A coulee- sculpted by glacial meltwater, deep and ancient.
A draw- a quiet crease in the earth, pulling water downhill.
A gully- narrow and sudden, cut by the rush of rain.
A ravine- steep-walled and shadowed, often hiding a stream.
A gulch- rocky, rugged, and wild as the Gold Rush days.
A canyon- grand and timeless, carved by rivers over millennia.
An arroyo- bone dry and silent… until it isn’t.
So many words for the same story the land is trying to tell. Each one fits somewhere. But which one fits here?

More importantly, what do YOU call it?

This ancient boulder has stood its ground for longer than any of us can imagine. It has been slowly sculpted by wind, water, and time, holding on by just a thread of earth beneath it.

These landscapes demand our respect. They reveal themselves only to those who slow down, look closer, and let wonder lead the way.

Open curiosity is what makes kids so special
and it’s exactly what keeps adults young and learning. So next time you’re out there, resist the urge to rush past. Crouch down. Inspect. Ask, “why and how”. It the simplest way to be present!

Ready for the 2026 river season!

This year marks 51 years in operation and 9 years under current ownership. A milestone that feels both humbling and powerful.

A lot has changed over the years. Gear, systems, faces, and the way we do business. But the river… the river has remained our constant. It’s been here through every chapter, steady, wild, grounding, and always reminding us why we started in the first place.

Here’s to honoring the past, embracing the evolution, and stepping into another season on the water.

See you out there!

Why booking local matters

As a traveler, you have more influence than you think. Where you spend your money shapes communities, protects places, and supports the people who call them home.

Before you book, dig a little deeper:

• Are they truly local? Do they live and work in the community, or simply operate in it?

• Do their values align with yours? Small business or corporate? Family-run or investor-owned?

• Do they give back? Do they support conservation, steward the land, or invest in local nonprofits?

• What are people saying?Reviews matter and real experiences tell the story.

Being a responsible traveler means looking beyond the surface. In a world built on consumption, choose experiences that give back, not just take.

Ask questions. Stay curious. Book with intention.

It’s a bird eye view is often used, but what’s the true meaning behind that?
There’s something humbling in it. From above, we’re small, but not insignificant. Just part of something wider, flowing, and interconnected. It’s perspective and or seeing how everything connect.

How do you interpret a Birds Eye view? Is it literal, figurative, all in theory?

Come join us to discover your quiet moment to reflect, find your Birdseye view.
