Did Celebrity Race Across the World make anyone else want to visit Borneo, or is it just me?

I’ve just caught up with episode one, and it’s already got me thinking about exploring an area of the world I haven’t visited yet.

Imagine discovering Borneo with a knowledgeable guide: meeting local people, sharing traditional meals and learning about the cultures and landscapes that make the island so special.

An escorted tour could be a lovely way to experience it, but finding the right one matters.

You might prefer a small group, want to feel comfortable travelling solo, or need to know how much walking is involved and whether the pace will suit your mobility and energy.

That’s where I can help. I’ll get to know what you want from your Borneo holiday, explore suitable tours and operators, and help bring the arrangements together.

If Borneo is now on your list too, message me BORNEO and let’s start a conversation.

When you book a holiday, how much does sustainability influence your choice?

For World Sustainability Day, I wanted to highlight some practical changes happening across travel.

Hotels
Iberostar says all its hotels in Spain now use renewable electricity. It is also using technology to help reduce food waste in its kitchens.

Airlines
British Airways is increasing its use of sustainable aviation fuel, which can reduce emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle. It still produces emissions and accounted for just 4.5% of BA’s fuel use in 2025, so there is considerable work ahead.

Cruise
Hurtigruten has converted four ships to hybrid propulsion and equipped its fleet to connect to shore power. Where ports provide that connection, ships can switch off their engines while docked.

There is also interest in more immersive holidays that bring us closer to nature. Booking.com’s research for 2026 found that 43% of travellers surveyed would holiday specifically to feel closer to the natural world.

Think guided wildlife watching, walking holidays and spending longer exploring a destination through its food, landscapes and local guides.

But being surrounded by nature does not automatically make a holiday more sustainable. How you get there, where you stay and how activities are managed all matter.

That is where careful planning adds value: looking beyond the headline while considering your comfort, accessibility requirements and the experiences you want.

There is still a long way to go, but I’m encouraged by the practical progress being made. I want to see it continue, with clear evidence behind the claims.

If sustainability matters when choosing your next holiday, message me with where you’re considering and your priorities. I can help assess the options and plan around what matters to you.

Love the choice of a larger cruise ship, but want somewhere quieter to retreat to?

That is exactly why I personally enjoy Princess’s Sanctuary and continue to choose it.

The comfortable loungers make a difference to me. Living with arthritis, I appreciate somewhere supportive to relax when I’m feeling stiff. Those details can genuinely affect how rested I feel on holiday.

I also enjoy getting to know the team. Building that rapport makes the service feel more personal, and their experience of destinations they have visited many times can spark lovely ideas for time ashore.

So Princess Cruises’ announcement that Sanctuary Collection is expanding to five more ships in 2027 caught my attention.

The Collection combines selected accommodation with a private Sanctuary Club and pool, exclusive Sanctuary Restaurant, priority access and reservations, and Princess Premier with eligible new bookings.

Sanctuary suite guests also receive access to the private Suite Lounge and a dedicated suite concierge.

Who would I consider it for?

Someone who enjoys a larger ship’s restaurants and entertainment but values a quieter retreat, dedicated dining and leisurely sea days.

Before recommending it, I would compare the exact accommodation, location, inclusions and additional fare against how you actually spend your holiday.

If you’ll be exploring ashore most days, the value may look different from a sailing with several sea days.

The new onboard launch dates are:

Royal Princess: 4 January 2027
Regal Princess: 17 April 2027
Discovery Princess: 24 April 2027
Sky Princess: 29 May 2027
Enchanted Princess: 12 June 2027

Considering Princess? Message me with your preferred dates and what matters most onboard. I’ll help you choose the right sailing and assess whether Sanctuary Collection is worth the extra for you.

Selected accommodation and eligible sailings only. Cabanas cost extra. Princess Premier is not automatically included with existing bookings.

This is what I wanted flexibility for. I just didn’t expect to need it quite like this.

Daily IV antibiotics going into my arm while I learn about expedition cruising from my sofa.

This week I’m joining CLIA’s A Week of Expedition, with daily 30 minute webinars helping members deepen their knowledge of this style of cruising.

Having been selected as one of CLIA’s 2027 Expedition Cruise Champions, it’s a welcome head start on the learning ahead.

For my travel clients, that learning matters. Understanding the differences between expedition experiences helps me ask better questions about what will suit you, your interests and your individual needs.

For me, being able to take part from home matters just as much.

When I started building my travel business, I wanted work that could fit around my health, appointments and unpredictable energy.

Now I’m putting that into practice in circumstances I hadn’t imagined.

Some days, recovery will take everything I have. Today, I can sit, listen and learn while having my treatment.

It’s a small step for my business, but being able to take it means a lot.

Need a holiday but have no idea where to go? That’s enough to start a conversation.

You don’t need to choose a destination before contacting me. Helping you work that out is part of my personalised holiday planning service.

We talk about what you enjoy, who you’re travelling with, your rough dates and your budget. Just as importantly, I want to understand what you need from this trip.

Time to switch off? Places to explore? A little adventure, with comfort waiting at the end of the day?

I also ask about the practical details, including how far you want to fly, your preferred pace and any accessibility requirements.

From there, I research and recommend destinations and holiday options that suit you, explaining why I’ve chosen them, saving you hours of searching and comparing.

That’s what bespoke travel means to me: getting to know you, then planning around you.

Message me with your rough dates and what you’d love from your next holiday. We can work out the “where” together.

Did you know cruise ship horns can play music? 🚢🔊

This was me on my balcony as we prepared to leave Grenada on a Princess cruise—with the ship’s horn playing The Love Boat theme. Quite a soundtrack for a Caribbean sailaway!

But why that tune?

Princess Cruises became closely associated with The Love Boat television series, which first aired in 1977 and featured its ships, most famously Pacific Princess. That’s why Princess is still known as the Love Boat cruise line today. ❤️

One of my favourite things about cruising is these little moments. You might book for the destinations, but sometimes it’s standing on your balcony listening to the ship’s horn that becomes a lasting holiday memory.

Did you recognise the tune before reading this? 👇

Swap winter for the Caribbean

Oceania Cruises has savings of up to 50% on selected Caribbean sailings, plus US$250 shipboard credit per stateroom.

Veranda stateroom fares start from £1,360 per person for the seven-day sailing aboard Vista, departing Miami on 14 December 2026.

Why Oceania?

If you love the idea of a smaller luxury ship, attentive service, exceptional cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere, this could be the line for you.

Speciality dining, gratuities, WiFi, soft drinks and use of the self-service launderettes are included. Oceania now welcomes new bookings for guests aged 18 and over.

Imagine spending Christmas Day in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas

You could do exactly that on the Balmy Island Holiday itinerary aboard Vista, departing Miami on 21 December 2026.

Swipe through the sailings, shown in departure date order, for options from November through to February.

And your holiday doesn’t have to begin and end with the cruise.

We could add a few days exploring Miami, build a longer adventure around Florida, or look at destinations along the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic, perhaps including part of your journey by Amtrak.

Choose the sailing finishing in San Juan and we could add time in Puerto Rico or explore a city stay in somewhere like New York or Madrid, depending on flights and your dates.

I can bring your cruise, flights, hotels and transfers together around your interests, your time and any accessibility or dietary needs.

Message me with the sailing that catches your eye and let’s look at your complete holiday

Advertised cruise fares are per person based on two sharing, subject to availability and change. Flights, hotels and transfers are quoted separately. Fares include all mandatory onboard fees, port fees and port taxes. Shipboard credit is per stateroom. Savings vary by sailing and category. Supplier fares shown were accurate on 6 October 2026. Offer ends 3 November 2026. T&Cs apply.
