"Go, go, go, go..."

There are no words for this kind of pain. This fish had the weight, the fight, and the shoulders to easily be a new lake record. We did everything we could to steer him clear, but he made a final, desperate run right into the Suzuki.

Itโ€™s a brutal reminder that these giant North Texas blues didn't get to record-breaking size by making mistakes. They know exactly how to use the boat against you.

It hurts to look at the empty net, but knowing there are monsters of that caliber swimming under our feet keeps us coming back every single day.

Especially when the fish decide they're going to play games ๐Ÿ˜…

The Salyer family joined me Thursday for some WHACK EM AND STACK EMยฎ catfish action and early on it felt like we were running a hookset clinic.

Fish on.

Fish off.

Miss one.

Get another chance.

The young ladies kept me busy with coaching, but that's part of the fun.

A little adjustment here.
A little timing adjustment there.

And slowly things started clicking.

Meanwhile, mom and dad were absolute HAMMERS.

If a fish touched a bait, chances were good it was headed to the boat ๐Ÿ˜‚

Once everybody got dialed in, it turned into a whole different trip.

Fish started sticking.

The box started filling.

And by the end of the morning we had put together a stellar box of catfish and sent the family home with a hot mess of fillets.

Sometimes the biggest difference between a slow day and a great day is just figuring out the timing.

Dale and Danny joined me Tuesday for some catfish action and Mother Nature definitely made us work for it. Dead calm conditions, not a lick of wind, and the fish didnโ€™t exactly want to cooperate early.

We had to grind on them pretty good, move around, and stay after them, but it all came together in the end. We put together a nice box of fish and finished just shy of a two-man limit.

Best part of the day though? Both of them said it was the best fishing theyโ€™d ever experienced. Thatโ€™s always the kind of feedback I appreciate hearing.

Some days itโ€™s easy. Some days you earn every one of them. Tuesday was definitely an โ€œearn itโ€ kind of trip. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Holiday crowds everywhere.
Jet skis zig-zagging like they were qualifying for NASCAR.

Mark brought a crew out for some WHACK EM AND STACK EMยฎ catfish action anyway, and honestly, I knew going in we were probably going to have to grind a little.

So the game plan was simple:

Stay tucked into no-wake zones and areas with less traffic and hunt for fish willing to bite through all the chaos.

And for the most part?

It worked.

Minus the handful of people treating the no-wake zones like they were optional

We definitely had to work for them, which is pretty normal on a summer holiday weekend, but we stayed after it and managed to put together a really nice box of fish by the end of the trip.

Sometimes this time of year itโ€™s less about finding fishโ€ฆ

and more about finding a little peace and quiet long enough to catch them
