Dead-calm water. Sky-high barometric pressure. Full moon coming.

Everything lined up for a TOUGH day of catfishing.

Somebody forgot to tell the FISH!

These boys made the trip back from West Texas for another round of WHACK EM AND STACK EM® action on Eagle Mountain Lake.

And they absolutely HAMMERED 'EM!

The lake was slick enough to see a minnow fart, but the rods kept bending and the catfish kept coming over the side.

Before long, we had a BIG OL' LOAD OF FISH IN THE BOAT!

I've been doing this long enough to know you can study the weather, watch the moon, and keep an eye on the barometer...

But the catfish don't always read the same rulebook. 😂

Always good having these West Texas boys back in the boat. Thanks for making the drive again, fellas!

𝐍𝐎 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐃. 𝐒𝐊𝐘-𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄. 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐄 𝐁𝐔𝐙𝐙𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄.

AND WE STILL LIMITED OUT! 😂🎣

The Standley family joined me on Eagle Mountain Lake for a half-day of WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, and I'll tell you right now...

We had to EARN every one of those fish.

The lake was slicker than a greased pig.

The barometer was through the roof.

And the HOLE BUZZARDS were out in FULL FORCE. 👀

Everywhere I went, somebody seemed to be following along, trying to figure out where I was catching fish.

I reckon finding your own fish is just too much trouble these days.

But here's the problem with following me around...

I DON'T SIT STILL.

We stuck and moved.

Caught a few here.

Picked up some more over there.

Covered a WHOLE LOT of water.

And kept putting catfish in the boat.

Was it easy? NOPE.

Did we have to work for them? YOU BET.

What could possibly go wrong?

The Williams family joined me on Eagle Mountain Lake for some WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, and Mother Nature wasn't exactly doing us any favors.

𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝.

Barometric pressure through the roof.

And a boat full of folks without much fishing experience.

That's a pretty good recipe for making a fishing guide earn his paycheck. 😂

The fish weren't exactly jumping in the boat, and I was running from one end to the other getting everybody coached up.

How to hold the rod.

When to set the hook.

What to do when a fish finally decides to cooperate.

𝐌𝐘 𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐏-𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐌𝐎𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆. 😂

But once everybody started getting the hang of it...

LOOK OUT!

The rods started bending and the catfish started coming over the side.

Now, it wasn't one of those mornings where we could sit in one spot and hammer them all day.

We had to MOVE.

Find some fish. Catch a few. Move again.

Rinse and repeat.

But we kept after them, and by the time we headed back to the dock, the Williams family was just a few fish shy of a THREE-PERSON LIMIT!

Not bad for a crew that started the morning learning which end of the rod to hold. 😂

THAT'S A WHOLE LOT OF CATFISH FOR ONE MORNING! 😂🎣

And believe it or not, this wasn't even ALL the fish we caught.

Floyd came back with another crew for some WHACK EM AND STACK EM® action on Eagle Mountain Lake, and we had ourselves a DAY!

We got into some nice eater-size catfish and started putting fish in the cooler.

Blue catfish. Channel catfish. Plenty of good ones.

And the rods kept bending.

We had to work for some of them, but that's why I've got a motor on the boat. If the fish aren't where I want them, I'll go find some that are. 😂

By the time we headed in, Floyd and his crew had put together a NICE mess of catfish.

JUST A FEW FISH SHY OF A THREE-MAN LIMIT!

And if you think that's a good day, there's something this picture DOESN'T show...

We also caught a MONSTA trophy blue catfish that tried its absolute best to dismantle my boat.

That big ol' fish wrapped around a Power-Pole TWICE, made a run at the motor, and had my flip-flops smoking before we finally got it in the net.

We took some pictures and turned that one loose.

So we got a cooler full of good eating fish AND a trophy blue catfish that'll probably give me nightmares about boat repairs. 😂

THAT'S MY KIND OF FALL CATFISHING!

As the water keeps cooling on Eagle Mountain Lake, we're getting into some great opportunities for both numbers and trophy fish.

And don't forget, we run BOTH kinds of trips all winter long.

The Weimer family came back for another round of WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, this time to celebrate a birthday!

And Mother Nature decided to bring the WIND.

It was RIPPING.

But I'll take that over one of those dead-calm mornings where the lake is so slick you can see a minnow fart. 😂

We dropped lines and within a few minutes...

THE RODS STARTED BENDING. 🎣

And they pretty much stayed that way all morning.

We caught a METRIC TON of catfish, but apparently the little ones had heard we were giving away free breakfast.

We were back in CATFISH DAYCARE for a while. 😂

After a few moves, we finally got away from the short fish and found the better ones.

And then it was GAME ON.

NONSTOP ACTION.

Fish coming over the side.

Rods going down.

And my flip-flops getting another workout.

By the time we headed in, the Weimer crew was just a few fish shy of a THREE-PERSON LIMIT on a half-day trip!

Not a bad way to celebrate a birthday. 🎂

Then made a run at the motor.

Floyd brought another crew back for some WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, and this big ol' blue turned an ordinary fishing trip into a full-blown THREE-RING CIRCUS.

A few minutes of chaos, a whole lot of coaching, and one very determined catfish later...

And we STILL finished just a few fish shy of a three-man limit of nice eater catfish.

The Granbery family came in from Midland last week for some WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, and BOY DID THEY PICK A GOOD DAY!

After weeks of dead-calm mornings and that ridiculous GHOST BITE, we FINALLY had some good wind blowing.

And the catfish?

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐑𝐘. 👀

We got on the fish, the rods started bending, and these folks absolutely HAMMERED THEM.

They loaded the boat with a LIMIT of REALLY NICE catfish in no time on their half-day trip.

And the QUALITY?

EXCELLENT.

Now here's what REALLY has me excited...

The water temperatures have already been dropping, and we've got another cold front headed our way later this week.

That's exactly what I've been waiting on.

As that water continues cooling, the fall patterns are going to keep developing, and things are about to get REALLY interesting on Eagle Mountain Lake.

And here's the fun part...

25 KEEPERS AND A TROPHY BLUE.

NOT BAD FOR A ONE-MAN CREW. 😂

Don came back for another round of WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action, and I LOVE these solo trips.

With just one person in the boat, I can slow things down, really focus on the fish I want to target, and fine-tune what we're doing.

Of course, slowing down doesn't mean we have to catch fewer fish. 👀

We had a full moon to deal with, but apparently the catfish didn't get the memo.

Don got dialed in, and we HAMMERED OUT HIS 25-FISH LIMIT in no time! 🎣

And just to make things a little more interesting...

A NICE TROPHY BLUE decided to join the party!

NOW THAT'S MY KIND OF MORNING. 😂

That's one of the things I love about this time of year on Eagle Mountain Lake.

FULL MOON. STUBBORN FISH. FULL COOLER. 😂

The Jesse family came back for another round of WHACK EM AND STACK EM® catfish action on Eagle Mountain Lake!

We had a full moon hanging over us, but apparently nobody bothered telling the catfish they weren't supposed to cooperate. 😂

They weren't exactly jumping in the boat, though.

We had to do some moving around and hunt down the schools that were ready to eat.

But every time we found the right fish...

THE RODS STARTED BENDING. 🎣

We kept moving, kept catching, and before long these boys had HAMMERED OUT A TWO-MAN LIMIT without any trouble.

Sometimes the fish make you work a little to find them.

That's fine.
