Royal Caribbean has dropped the preposition 'at' from the name of its private Bahamian destination, now officially called Perfect Day CocoCay instead of Perfect Day at CocoCay. The change has been implemented across the cruise line's website, marketing materials, online booking engine, and reservation invoices.

The cruise line confirmed the stylistic change with a short video posted on social media showcasing one of the performers who welcomes guests to the destination. The change also applies to sister line Celebrity Cruises' website and materials, as Celebrity Cruises began visiting the destination in April 2024.

While Royal Caribbean has not confirmed any official logic behind the switch, Perfect Day CocoCay does align better with the names of other private destinations the cruise line has around the world, which are called Ultimate Destinations by Royal Caribbean. Every beach club experience is named Royal Beach Club: [Location] such as Royal Beach Club: Paradise Island in the Bahamas and Royal Beach Club: Santorini in Greece.

As of August 26, 2026, only one destination lacks the Perfect Day or Royal Beach Club name, and that is the cruise line's private destination of Labadee, Haiti, which is described as an Exclusive Destination. No Royal Caribbean ship has visited Labadee since March 2024 due to violence and civil unrest in the nation.

Turkish authorities have banned a cruise ship catering to American LGBTQ+ travelers from docking in the country's ports, citing moral standards and family values. The Scarlet Lady, owned by Virgin Voyages, was expected to host more than 1,000 passengers from the US on an Athens to Venice cruise departing Greece on July 5.

Local authorities in Turkey canceled the event, stating the ship was chartered by groups known for behaviors incompatible with their society and moral values. The cruise was scheduled to dock in the Turkish port town of KuลŸadasฤฑ, followed by a trip to Istanbul, according to Atlantis Events, which is organizing the voyage.

Rich Campbell, president and CEO of Atlantis Events, said it was the first time in 36 years that the company has been actively told they may not berth because of who they are. Atlantis broke the news to passengers on Thursday, announcing they had to change ports to remove both Turkish stops.

Atlantis Events said the cruise will now stop in Cairo, Egypt and the Greek island of Crete instead of Turkey. Authorities have banned Pride marches in Istanbul since 2015, citing public safety and security concerns.

Ovation of the Seas docked in Seward, Alaska last week with a shocking discovery - a dead, 61-foot whale draped across the ship's bulbous bow. The endangered fin whale, determined to be an adult female, was towed to a nearby beach where an animal autopsy was performed.

An examination of the whale, in collaboration with the Alaska SeaLife Center and Alaska Veterinary Pathology Services, revealed it was pregnant, freshly dead and in good nutritional condition, with plenty of blubber and muscle. A preliminary autopsy showed the creature had suffered a series of blunt force injuries consistent with a vessel strike.

In a statement, Royal Caribbean said the company is saddened to hear that one of their ships struck a whale while on its way to Seward and that they take any impact to marine ecosystems very seriously. The company stated the incident was immediately reported to authorities, and it is fully cooperating with NOAA.

Testing to determine an official cause of death may take months to complete. Plans are currently underway to arrange for the whale carcass to be towed out to sea as soon as possible, where it is expected to sink and nourish a wide variety of deep-sea marine life. The fin whale is the second-largest whale species on earth and is listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act.

The US Embassy in Nassau issued a security alert on June 15, 2026, warning Americans about serious risks associated with jet ski operators in the Bahamas. The alert specifically addresses the lack of enforcement of safety regulations for watercraft rentals near Nassau Cruise Port.

Since 2024, the embassy has received multiple reports of sexual assaults involving jet ski operators. Seven US women have reported sexual assaults by operators near Nassau Cruise Port, including incidents at Junkanoo Beach, Saunders Beach, Cabbage Beach, and beaches on Paradise Island. The assaults reportedly occurred on isolated islands near Nassau after women rented equipment and followed tour operators for excursions.

The alert also highlights serious safety incidents involving jet ski accidents. In August 2025, a US citizen riding a jet ski was killed after being struck by an unlicensed operator driving an unregistered boat off Paradise Island. Since August 2024, six Americans have been hospitalized with injuries from jet ski accidents, with three requiring emergency medical evacuations to the United States.

The embassy advises US citizens to avoid renting jet skis altogether in the Bahamas, particularly near the Cruise Port, Junkanoo Beach, Arawak Cay, and the small islands east of Paradise Island. The Bahamas maintains a Level 2 travel advisory urging visitors to exercise increased caution due to violent crime.
