Exciting herd update! 🐮 Winnie, one of our Ankole cattle, welcomed the first Ankole calf born at Walt Disney World in over 20 years. The female calf and her mother are in good health and will spend some time bonding behind the scenes before heading onto the savanna at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Today isn’t just a date… it’s National Winnie-the-Pooh Day 🍯

January 18 marks the birthday of A. A. Milne (born 1882), the creator of Winnie-the-Pooh one of the most beloved characters in storytelling history.

What makes Pooh so special is how personal his origins were. Milne was inspired by his young son, Christopher Robin Milne, and his collection of stuffed animals. Pooh himself began life as a teddy bear originally named Edward, later renamed after a real black bear called Winnie, a Canadian war mascot who lived at the London Zoo during World War I.

🌳 The real Hundred Acre Wood:
The magical forest wasn’t imaginary, it was inspired by the Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest, England, where Milne and his son would walk together. Many of the locations in the stories still exist today.

📖 Winnie The Pooh facts:
• Pooh first appeared in a poem called “Teddy Bear” in 1924, before the books.
• His first story followed on Christmas Eve 1925.
• Winnie-the-Pooh was published in 1926, followed by The House at Pooh Corner in 1928.
• Despite the joy the stories brought to millions, Milne later admitted the overwhelming success of Pooh overshadowed his other writing, a bittersweet legacy.

From gentle wisdom to quiet comfort, Pooh’s words have stayed with generations, reminding us that sometimes the simplest stories are the most powerful.
