I’m a chicken. Full stop. The idea of jumping into Halloween Horror Nights in the dark, getting genuinely scared, and having to keep my wits about me while actors are coming at me? Not happening. So when I found out about the Unmasking the Horror: Behind the Screams tour, I knew it was my way in.
Lights on. No jump scares. Just the backstory, the Easter eggs, and a real look at how Universal builds these houses from the ground up.
Walking through H.R. Bloodengutz, we stopped in front of a stack of VHS tapes, each one individually labeled with a different scene we were about to walk through. That’s when it clicked: this isn’t just decoration. This is the blueprint. Every single detail, every prop, every scare point is mapped out before the actors ever step foot in there.
The people on the tour with me? Hardcore Horror Nights fans who were spending multiple days hitting every house, some of them twice. A couple had already gone through the houses we saw in the tour the day before, just to get a baseline. Then they did the tour. Now they’re going back through with all that context, seeing things they missed the first time around.
