We learn on boats every time we are out on the water, but some people are just getting their sea legs. We all crawl before we run...or boat...check out this short on the doors on a pontoon!

Boy Scout or not, there are some knots that you ought not not know. This is one of those.

Personal Watercraft (Jet Skis) are super fun, but all too often not taken as a serious "toy."

PWC make up 20% of boating accidents each year. with inattention, sp*ed, and lack of training accounting for the issues.

We know that boats are not cars, but Jet Skis aren't boats.

If you have skis, or what a family member to learn how to be safe, book lessons with a CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR with the Boating Boot Camp.

Boating Boot Camp: The Importance of the Capacity Plate:
The Capacity Plate is found on most recreational vessels, and it holds some very important safety information.

The maximum amount of people OR weight. If a Cap Plate says "7 Persons or 1019 pounds" It is talking about the total weight on the boat, so the 1019 includes any gear you might bring plus the crew.
It also tells you the largest engine is safe to hang on the boat.

Do NOT ignore this little plate full of safety information.

Becomes a safer, better, and more confident boater with the Boating Boot Camp!

Boating Boot Camp: Look For The P*e

So the combustion engine on your boat is like your car -it is liquid cooled. The difference is that generally on recreational boats, there isn't a radiator. It cools using an impeller that basically sucks water out of your water source (The lake, or river, or harbor), cools the engine, and ejects it out the side.

It is a great idea, each time you start the motor to check for the "p*e" to ensure that your impeller is working.

If you don't see anything there could be a couple things going on - the intake of the impeller could be block, or it could have fouled. (with this in mind, there are newer motors that don't eject, so know your motor!)

Don't run your motor without a water source for any period of time!
