Curran Hall was home to many prominent Little Rock families, with stories of the home spreading as far as Oklahoma, as we see in this diary entry.

Visit Curran Hall for free! We are open as the Little Rock Visitor Center Monday-Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, 10:00am-3:00pm. (Closed Sundays November-March)

Managed by the Quapaw Quarter Association, Curran Hall welcomes weddings, bridal parties, photography sessions, meetings, intimate gatherings, receptions, sit-down dinners, and buffets, hosted both inside the lovely historic home and on beautifully landscaped grounds maintained by the Pulaski County Master Gardeners.

Emily Murrell Jarnigan, George Murrell's niece who visited Hunter's Home in 1850, wrote this in her diary on April 5th, 1850:

"Friday evening 5th. Got to Little Rock about one. As there was no boat going to Fort Gibson, we came up to the 'Anthony House'. I am now dressed to go take tea with Mrs. C."

Mrs. C. was Mrs. Curran and below is the Curran House in Little Rock, Arkansas today. The Curran House was built in 1842 and is Little Rock's only antebellum home open to the public. Today It is the Little Rock Information Center as well as the mayor's reception hall. The Curran House was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Historic preservation creates sustainable solutions to protect our neighborhoods and historic resources for the next generation. Part of that preservation means keeping our streets clean! Clean streets and parks encourage residents to take pride in their surroundings, leading to less littering overall, and encourages social interaction amongst neighbors and residents.

Historic Curran Hall, home of the Little Rock Visitor and Information Center, is looking for a "Visitor Information Specialist."

We are seeking applicants who are dynamic and energetic with communication skills to greet and engage visitors, and inform them of Little Rock’s attractions, events, amenities and services. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, personable, articulate with excellent communication, computer, and writing skills. This position will require no more than 20 hours per week.

🙋Position Responsibilities
-Perform visitor center duties in an efficient, professional and courteous manner -Greet visitors, answer questions in a positive, welcoming and informative manner and provide information on the area attractions and businesses to help people explore Little Rock and the surrounding area
-Answer visitor phone calls and prepare visitor packages for mailing
-Demonstrate a strong knowledge of Little Rock’s businesses, recreation, and attractions
-To be well-informed regarding current attractions, events, shows, and exhibits as well as weather, road conditions and closings
-Organize and restock information at the visitor center
-Assist in gathering visitor data and information via guestbook
-Maintain effective communication with the Director and assist with any administrative support and additional requirements that may come up from time to time


👍Qualifications/skills required:
-Customer Service experience preferred.
-Organized, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
-Interested in and knowledgeable about Little Rock history, tourism, and attractions.
-Experience with navigating websites and online platforms.

Job Type: Part Time

Pay: from $11.00/hour

Hours: 15-20/week

🏠Curran Hall Management:

Under a management agreement with the City of Little Rock and the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Quapaw Quarter Association is responsible for the maintenance and operation of Curran Hall as the Little Rock Visitor Information Center.

A sign on the the door leading into Curran Hall from its backyard floral garden offers a reminder that this is one of Little Rock's most venerable surviving structures. It was built in 1842, only six years after Arkansas became a state.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of John Gill.
John was the founding member of the Friends of Curran Hall and was responsible for the existence of the restored building. He led the campaign to raise funds for restoration; he initiated the concepts of heritage gardens to surround the building and attract visitors (he and Marjem became Master Gardeners to help coordinate with PCMG), engaged Becky Thompson to design them, and labored faithfully for years in them; he repeatedly worked to assure the viability of CH as the Visitor Information Center, cooperating with LR Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Remember John as you plant & harvest Hyacinth Bean Vine and prune the Cherokee Rose and keep telling the stories associated with the native and heirloom plants.
