Excellent Everglades Tour
A few years ago, my parents took an airboat tour through the Everglades and have been hyping it up to our family ever since. They finally got the chance to take my brother and me along with them. It was worth all the hype!
We booked a 90 minute private 4 pm tour in June, so it was obviously very hot. But once the airboat got moving, the wind off the water cooled us down, and Captain Pete kept us hydrated with an ice chest full of cold water.
This was such a unique experience for a suburban girl like myself. The wildlife and scenery were stunning. Captain Pete had a great eye for alligators, and knew exactly where to find them in every size, even with the low water levels. My brother's a big fan of birds, so he loved that a flock of boat-tailed grackles followed the boat around.
There's a primordial kind of fear in being silently stalked by a gator you didn't even see coming — but I felt safe the whole tour. Granted, I was careful to keep my arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times.
I would recommend this tour, and Captain Pete especially, to anyone wanting a real taste of the Everglades.
