Wow, Literacy Night sure was lit! Thank you to everyone who bought tickets for our local business basket raffle, and thank you .glo, , and bside_records_vintage for contributing to the raffle! Thank you to our instructional coach Sarah Powers for your vision and efforts to organize Lit Night, and all the Ardenwald Staff who helped run the event! Our students had so much fun making word bracelets, finding new used books, engaging with all the amazing stations, grabbing stickers from our wonderful , writing thank you cards to their teachers and more!

Another awesome alumni interview!

1. What years did you attend Ardenwald Elementary?
I went to school at Arendwald from 4th-6th 1989-93

2. What was the name of a teacher or staff member who you’ll never forget? What made them so special?
Mr. Oliver my 4th grade teacher was wonderful! Mr. Z our PE teacher Mr Saunders taught 6th grade but not mine. Our teachers switched classes during math.

3. What was your favorite lunch at Ardenwald?

Chicken a-la-king
And the BBQ at the end of the year

4. What do you remember doing during recess? Did you have a favorite game? Tetherball and 4 square
Mr Oliver would sometimes come out and push us really high on the swings, that was special.
We had a long metal slide....so it got piping hot.

Our old logo was a bomb in the school mailbox. Apparently, before my time, there was a bomb threat and after huddling inside the gym for a long time. Mr Oliver went outside and saw that it was a hoax. I kind of want that old tshirt logo!

Another wonderful alumni spotlight!

#1 - I think I attended Ardenwald from 1965-70 (approximately)
#2 - A couple of my favorite teachers were Debbie Howe and Gary Matsuoka (sp?)
At some point elementary teachers were invited to attend our graduation ceremony (MHS)....I was one of the many teachers dressed in a robe and Debbie came right up to me and said Billy Haugen....I couldn’t believe she recognized me after what must have been about 30 years.
While attending PSU as part of one of my education classes I had to interview an elementary teacher regarding their training in health education....of course I picked Gary and it was fun interviewing more as a future colleague instead of a student in his 6th grade class
#3 - My favorite lunch was weiner wraps with cherry jubilee dessert....I still make weiner wraps today :-)
#4 - At recess we played endless games of football...at the time the Green Bay Packers were the dominant team and so we all played pretending to be the stars of the Packers....as I was usually a wide receiver I was either Carroll Dale or Boyd Dowler, whoever was quarterback was Bart Starr and so on....
#5 - Other memories include: Outdoor school....a week of “roughing it” in the woods at Camp Trestle Glen.....I think it was 4th graders who every year learned about Native American culture and celebrated with a Potlatch potluck in the playshed....different decorations, foods, etc.
