Real Talk — What I’d Tell a Client Before They Go
The honest things that did not make the brochure — straight from the site visit.

A few honest things I would tell a client before booking Eden Roc Cap Cana: it is effectively two properties linked by golf cart, so match the villa type to how close to the sand you want to be; it is a genuinely quiet property, which is the point for some and not for others; the gym is small; and at dawn and dusk the bugs are real, so pack repellent (but they do provide an entire bottle of bug spray in each room too!). Eden Roc Cap Cana in five senses. Sight: a village of villas above a turquoise cove. Sound: sound-healing bowls at a morning session, the surf, the show kitchen at BLUE. Smell: salt, plantain and garlic from the mofongo, Acqua di Parma in the villa. Taste: Mediterranean, raw bar, Nikkei — and mofongo pounded by hand. Touch: a private plunge pool at dusk, soft sand, cool stone.

One small detail tells you everything about Eden Roc Cap Cana: instead of a room key, you are handed two — one to a freestanding villa with a private plunge pool, one to your own golf cart. The property is built as a village of villas rather than a single tower, gathered above a soft, protected cove called Caletón. It is the difference between staying somewhere and living somewhere.

An honest update: I set out to see four properties in the Dominican Republic and made it to one — a foot infection sent me home early, before I had posted anything. But I spent three full days at Eden Roc Cap Cana, the only Relais & Chñteaux property in the country, and I am going to share what I learned over the next couple of weeks.
