Cherokee County, situated in Western North Carolina encompasses the communities of Murphy, Andrews and Brasstown, where forested mountains (rather than skyscrapers) seem to touch the sky, lakes sparkle like jewels in the sun and the air is crisp and clean. It is a quiet area located in the south western corner of North Carolina and has come to be known as the “Gateway to the Smoky Mountains.”

The area is filled with mountains, lakes, rivers and streams providing us with breathtaking landscapes and an unlimited amount of outdoor activities to try out. Since Cherokee County is bordered by Tennessee and Georgia, it is conveniently located within 2 hours of four major cities: Chattanooga, TN, Knoxville, TN, Asheville, NC and Atlanta, GA, giving residents and visitors the best of both worlds. You can easily enjoy a quiet escape without being too far away from anything the city has to offer. With its small town feel, warm Southern hospitality and plenty of things to explore, Cherokee County, NC is the perfect destination to unplug and get away from the stress of everyday life. The fall show is just getting started Where NC Begins!

Color is beginning to pop across Cherokee County at the higher elevations, with plenty of green still mixed into our mountainsides. These photos offer a little inspiration for the richer autumn views we’re looking forward to as the season unfolds the next couple of weeks!

Color changes at different elevations, so every scenic drive brings something a little different. Come explore Murphy, Andrews and Brasstown, and watch the season unfold.

The Andrews Rest Area has been called one of the most beautiful in North Carolina, but there's more here than scenic mountain views.

Located along the Valley River just off U.S. 19/74, this stop features historical displays sharing the stories of the Cherokee people, Fort Delaney, and the Trail of Tears.

Saturday, October 31 A Murphy Haunting: Trick-or-Treating in Downtown Murphy is the main event! Join us in downtown for an evening of family fun from 4-7PM. Be at Center Stage in Downtown at 6:00 to WIN PRIZES for Youth Costume Contest. Categories for ages under 18 and Best Group Family Costume. Come early to register.

Sometimes the best way to enjoy fall in Cherokee County is to slow down, cast a line, and take in the scenery.

At Dave Bristol Park in Andrews, anglers can enjoy a peaceful afternoon fishing along the Valley River, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains.

Whether the fish are biting or not, it's a pretty good way to spend a fall day.
