R.I.P. to an icon, a woman who stood up for what’s right, to the chagrin of the patriarchy, and founder of Ms. Magazine, where our founder Pamela Lewis once interned. Gloria Steinem was 92 years old. According to her family’s announcement: “Gloria’s near-century on earth were years well-lived, and she continued working for equality until the very end.” We send our love to her family and everyone who knew and loved her, as they carry this loss. 💔

There are usually no words in times like these yet when it comes to Dolly Parton, this is simply not true. While we are absolutely gutted by today’s news, Dolly is and will always be one of humanity’s true angels. She was and will continue to be a beacon of truth, fairness, love and light. We can forever see and hear that charming laugh and wit in films like “9 to 5” and every other video left for us to view. Her music was one of a kind: honest. Heartfelt. True to herself. The Lord truly broke the mold when they made Dolly Parton and we will always love her.

We wish to send our deepest condolences to Vernell’s family. A true titan of the country music journalist community. She will be missed.

Vernell Hackett, a beloved journalist and author, passed away on Aug. 14 after going into cardiac arrest at the Chicago airport en route to Mexico for vacation. She was 77.

Hackett’s legacy as a country music writer included time as editor of Country News, Country Rhythms and American Songwriter magazines. She was a founder of American Songwriter, and helmed the publication as editor-in-chief for more than a decade. Hackett also freelanced for many other publications and syndicators throughout her career, and mentored many young reporters.

As an author, Hackett wrote Ghosts, Gangsters and Gamblers of Las Vegas with longtime friends Liz Cavanaugh and Michelle Honick. She also wrote a biography of Carrie Underwood.

Had a great time this past weekend at the VFW Post 4893 - Franklin, TN this weekend where our client Claude Carmichael performed along with his son Julian, DeeAnn Dominy, and Craig Lackey performed in a songwriter’s round! Held every other month, look for the next round (followed by Guitars For Vets) and an open mic! A great time was had by all!
