A visit to Café Du Monde in New Orleans means one thing: beignets, café au lait, and a whole lot of powdered sugar. 😂🙌🏾

There is something special about slowing down, sitting with a warm drink, enjoying a classic New Orleans treat, and just taking in the moment.

Travel is not only about where you go.
It is also about what you taste, who you meet, and the memories you bring home with you.

And yes… powdered sugar on your clothes is basically part of the experience. 😂

🖤 SOME TRIPS AREN’T JUST VACATIONS — THEY ARE LESSONS.

Travel is not always about beaches, resorts, and pretty scenery. Sometimes you walk into a place and history makes you stand still.

Seeing the reality of segregation represented on a bus and then looking into the faces of Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, Denise McNair, and Cynthia Wesley — the four young girls whose lives were taken in the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church — is the kind of experience that stays with you.

These were not just names in a history book.
They were children. Daughters. Sisters. Friends. Dreams interrupted.

And exhibits like these remind us that the freedoms many of us enjoy today came through tremendous sacrifice, courage, and pain.

That is one reason I believe in historical and cultural travel. Go see the places. Walk through the museums. Read the names. Hear the stories. Take your children and grandchildren when you can.

Because when history becomes something you can see, feel, and stand in front of, you understand it differently.

WOULD YOU TRAVEL FOR A BOOK FAIR? ✈️📚

Now let me ask you something different… would you travel to another city or state just to attend a book fair?

I WOULD. 🙋🏾‍♀️😂

Because a good book fair is more than tables full of books.

It can be a whole experience.

📚 Meeting authors you have followed for years
🤝 Making new connections
🎤 Hearing writers share the stories behind their stories
🛍️ Discovering books you never knew existed
🌎 Exploring a new city while you are there

And from the author side? Traveling with your book means introducing your work to new readers, new markets, and new communities.

That is exactly the kind of journey I see for Double Crossing.

Not just sitting on a shelf.

Traveling. Connecting. Being discussed. Being read.

BOOK FAIR IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY 📚🏡

Have you ever traveled to a book fair right in your own community?

Sometimes we think we have to go hundreds of miles to discover great authors, new books, and meaningful conversations — when some of the best literary experiences are happening right around the corner.

Book fairs give us a chance to meet local authors, support independent writers, discover stories we may never see on the big bookstore shelves, and connect with people who simply love books. 📖❤️

And as an author, there is something special about standing in your own community and saying:

“I wrote this.”

I’m proud to share Double Crossing by Linda L. Porter, and I look forward to taking this story into more rooms, more communities, and more hands.

🍽️ Sometimes the BEST travel memories come from the little local spots.

Forget the fancy chains for a minute — when I travel, I love finding those places with history, personality, and food that tells you somebody back there knows what they’re doing. 😂🙌🏾

Places like Big Al’s Deli are exactly why I say: don’t just visit a destination — taste it, explore it, and experience the local culture.

Because sometimes the meal you remember most is not the one with the white tablecloth… it’s the one you almost walked right past. 👀❤️

✈️ Travel tip: Wherever you go, leave room in the itinerary for a local favorite. That is often where the real experience begins.

You know what I love about travel?

Sometimes the best part is not the excursion.
It is not the restaurant.
It is not even the shopping.

Sometimes it is simply THE VIEW. 😍

Portofino, Italy gives you that slow-down-and-take-it-all-in kind of beauty. Lush hillsides, colorful villas, peaceful water, hidden little coves… baby, this is vacation scenery done RIGHT. 😂🙌🏾

I am talking about:
🌿 Quiet mornings
🌊 Beautiful coastal views
🍝 Amazing Italian food
📸 Pictures you will keep forever
😌 And enough peace to make you forget your password at work

Now THAT is a vacation. 😂

Imagine opening your window and seeing Portofino, Italy looking back at you. 🌿🌊

The water.
The villas.
The greenery.
The quiet little shoreline.

This is the kind of place that reminds you why travel matters. Sometimes you need to get away from the noise, see something beautiful, and remember there is a whole world outside of your normal routine. 💙

And yes… I would absolutely sit right there with my coffee and ignore everybody for a little while. 😂☕️
