Disney Planning Tips: Ask Duane

What do you recommend for planning vacations of large groups to WDW or DCL?

I've done a lot of multi-generational vacations for families. It's best to get everyone's input on what they expect from their Disney vacation. Everyone should include children too. You will sometimes be surprised at the answers you get from different age groups. It's a way of making sure each person has input and it gives more meaning to everyone.

The most common concern is keeping everyone together and happy for the whole vacation. It usually works best when everyone is NOT together each moment of every day. Give each family a chance to experience the attractions that might not suit everyone. Let the grandparents take the kids one afternoon or evening. They'll have fun while Mom and Dad get some time to explore as a couple. You can always do some things together and have a time to meet for meals or shared experiences in the parks or at your resort.

Some of the best memories are from being together and enjoying unexpected moments. Get everyone involved and also let them have their own space. Make it a memorable and fun vacation for each member of your group. Remember, you have the fun and I'll take care of the details.

Safe Travels,
Duane

What's going on with the Carousel of Progress in Walt Disney World?

This attraction is scheduled to close July 6, 2026 and reopen sometime in 2027. Disney has announced plans to possibley add an introduction with an animatronic Walt Disney. The time periods to be featured will now be the 60's, 80's 2000, and a glimpse into the future. This attraction has been sponsered by GE and is known for it's unique presentation of having the audience move around the scenes.

Carousel of Progress has always been one of my favorite attractions. It will be interesting to see the show after these planned changes.

What age should children be to visit WDW or DCL?

A sensitive question that seems to have a different answer for each family. Some families have no problems bringing their child on vaction. They know the child will set the tone and plan for that. I always advise guests to try to keep their children on a routine as close to normal as possible. It's also important to not push kids too far. Give them breaks and if a child is fascinated with an attraction or area to let them enjoy the moment. It makes for a happy child and parents!

Most kids really start appreciating WDW or DCL by 1st or 2nd grade. Be sure to get your children's input on your vacation. You might be pleasently surprised by their answers. Also try shorteer trips near your home to see how the kids react. The important thing is to do what's right for your family. That way everyone has agreat time at WDW or DCL.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips Ask Duane:
Which WDW resort or DCL stateroom should I choose?

The resorts at Walt Disney World have many choices in Value, Moderate, and Deluxe catagories. An important factor to consider is where you want to spend time during your vacation. If your family will spend most of their time in the Magic Kingdom a nearby resort will be very convenient. If Epcot or DHS is your thing than a different set of resorts will work best for you. Same thing with Animal Kingdom.

The most important thing is what will make you happy. I always remind guests that they will spend more time at their resort than you think. They all have nice pools and dining can range from basic counter service to fine dining and all points in between. Some only have bus transportation to the parks. Others can have water craft or monorail options. Some have all of them. Think about what works for you. There are no wrong choices.

The Disney Cruise Line also has many choices. If it's possible I encourage guests to choose staterooms with verandahs. You can't beat sitting outside and enjoying sights and snacks from your own private space. There are also connecting rooms if you have a larger party.

Let me help you make these decisions and many others during your vacation planning. You have the fun and I'll take care of the details.

Safe Travels,
Duane

Disney Vacation Planning Tips Ask Duane:

How far ahead should I start planning my Disney vacation?

As far ahead as possible. I'm able to make reservations right now for all of 2026 and some of 2027. Too often I've had guests who have made their own reservations and ask for my assistance within 30 days of their arrival. For one thing there isn't any thing I can do and the time for making reservations on site has long passed.

Another reason to plan ahead is to lock in rates for your vacation. They can increase as you get closer to your dates. Also, I constantly check on rates and apply lower ones if your vacation is eligible. The longer you wait to plan can also effect what is available for your vacation.

The parks and ships are constantly evolving. I can help you to enjoy all they have to offer and not miss making memories with your family. As always, you have the fun, I'll take care of the details.

Safe Travels,
Duane

What are some things I should do before my WDW or DCL vacation?

You don't want to wait until the last moment to plan your Disney vacation. Planning ahead can be part of the fun. Guests should have some idea about what they want to experience. When I plan your Disney vacation a daily itinerary is included. My guests appreciate it and tell me it's easy to follow and helps them choose the attractions they would like to enjoy.

It's also a good idea to include all your family members in the planning process. Get everyone's input on what to do and when. Every moment does not have to be planned but a general plan will do wonders for all parties.

Ask questions. The more you know the more likely you will have a fun and memorable vacation. It's better to have your questions about where to stay, dining, types of tickets, and many others before arriving at your destination.

Remember, you have the fun while I take care of the details.

Safe Travels!

Disney Vaction Planning tips: Ask Duane

Should I carry cash while vacationing in Walt Disney World?

Most everything is done by credit cards in today's world. However, it's a good idea to have some cash with you at all times while vacationing in WDW. Some of the kiosks that are in the parks will only accept cash. There are times when the processing equipment in WDW could not be working. It's also great to have for housekeeping, luggage assistance and tipping at restaurants and lounges. I'm not saying you you should carry a large wad of cash but there are times when some money can come in handy.

Disney announced yesterday that reservations are now open for vacations in 2027. It's a great time to make plans for your next WDW vacation in 2026 or 2027. You can lock in lower rates and I can keep an eye on reservations to apply any eligible offers that may be created. Contact me and have fun while I take care of the details.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips, Ask Duane:

Why is a resort day important on a Disney vacation?

We all need to remember your Disney visit is a vacation and not a race. Everyone needs time to slow down and take in the details.

At WDW the ideal time to have a resort day is after two days in the parks. This gives your body a chance to regroup and allows everyone to take some time to reflect on what you have just experienced. There are a lot of details in the Disney resorts. From animal tracks in walkways at Wilderness Lodge to hidden Mickeys in the carpet at the Boardwalk. There are many extra things to find and enjoy in the parks.

A resort day can be anything you want it to be. You can sleep in, enjoy a character breakfast, lounge by the pool, or visit Disney Springs. The list goes on and on. It'a a chance to appreciate where you are and the intricate features that are in every theme park and resort. In my itineraries I have a long list of things to do when not in a theme park. If you are enjoying a Disney Cruise your at sea days work perfectly as a resort day.

If you have questions contact me. I'm here to handle all your vacation needs. My goal is to make your stay at WDW or DCL a pleasant one with many happy memories. Remember, I take care of the details so you can have the fun!

Disney Vacation Planning Tips Ask Duane:

Should we purchase the Disney meal plan during our WDW vacation?

Two things are important when you ask this question. Are you okay with keeping track of your credits? Most importatntly what type of eaters are your family?

Some guests like the idea of paying ahead and having meals already included in their vacation budget. The meal plan is most effective for longer vacations but not as much on short ones (1-3 days). Keeping track is important and is not a problem for some people.

If you like to have 1 sit down meal each day along with a couple of counter service meals the plan will probably work for you. If you just eat as you go, the counter service only plan could be right up your alley.

It really is a personal decision that depends on your comfort level with paying ahead and how you want to enjoy your meals.

As always, contact me for help in planning and advice on your Disney vacation. I do the work you have the fun!
