Why should I Plan two days of touring in the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World?

If it can fit in to your schedule, two days in the MK can be a lot of fun. MK is one of the most visited theme parks in the world. Main Street USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland are each filled with so many rich details. It's easy to get caught up in racing to the next attraction.

The Imagineers have included so many subtle changes as you walk from land to land. The music changes. Architecture styles and colors shift to create the mood for each area. The cast members costumes are different. Even the walk beneath your feet can change and reveal signs of the land you are visiting. From the smell of popcorn on Main Street USA to the distinct aroma of Pirates of the Caribbean, MK is a feast for all your senses.

We also don't want to forget the shows and characters in each land. All of these features add to the immersive feel of the MK. There's a lot to see and do in this park. After Main Street USA go left or right. Look high and low as you enjoy each area of the MK. Give yourself a day (or two) to really exoerience this special park. With or without kids it can be fun to let the MK come to you.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips: Ask Duane

Yes, there are activities for younger guests throughout the whole park. Too many times families have asked me about not visiting all four theme parks. A lot of times they mention Epcot as one not to visit. If you've been to WDW in the last 5 years and really prefer other theme parks that's okay. If not, I urge you to visit each one and make up your own mind about what is currently available in each park.

Here's some attractions that are enjoyed by younger guests (and those who are young at heart). Seeing Crush from Finding Nemo at the Living Seas. This interactive show is fun for the whole family. Let your creative ideas spring forth at Journey Into Imagination. Learn about and play with water at Journey of Water. Take a boat ride and discover new and old ways food is harvested and delivered in the world at Living With The Land.

In World Showcase everyone can enjoy seeing and hearing Elsa and Anna at Frozen Ever After in Norway. Enjoy a meal with princesses in a castle at Akershus also in Norway. Did you know you can meet Wiinie the Pooh in a house in England? Beauty and the Beast are often seen strolling and meeting guests in France. Enjoy juggling, miming, and classic whistle based communication with Sergio! in Italy. Donald Duck and friends will entertain everyone as you visit Mexico in the Gran Fiesta Tour. Listen to and dance with a polka band while dining at Biergarten in Germany. There are kidcot stops in every country in World Showcase. Here your little ones can engage in fun projects and meet cast members from aroung the world.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips: Ask Duane

What is my favorite Disney resort?

I'm asked this question by a lot of guests that are planning Disney Vacations. Over the years I've been lucky to experience many of the Disney resorts. Each one is different and offers a unique take on your vacation. For me the favorite is Animal Kingdom Lodge, specifically Jambo House.

We love animals so that is part of the reason. But is not the only factor. The wildlife stay on the savannah 24/7. Each day around noon cast members take all of the animals to a backstage area for a general check-up. Disney has a clever lighting effect on the savannah which allows you to see the animals at night but not so bright that they (or humans) can't rest. One can look out at 3 a.m. and see animals. Guests can also enjoy a Starlight Safari in a vehicle at night at Jambo House.

Jambo House is a marvelous resort with winding paths inside and out and also includes a suspension bridge soaring over the main lobby. Warm colors and African music encourage guests to wander and explore. There is a lot of African art placed throughout the resort. Most of the cast members here are from various countries in Africa. They are exceedingly polite and happy to share information about the resort and their home countries.

Uzima Springs Pool is large and tropical themed, ready for all ages to have fun and relax. Zawadi Marketplace has a wide variety of gifts. Everything from your favorite Disney items to beautiful African gifts. I and many others rate the restaurants here among the best at WDW. There is something for everyone to enjoy at Boma. Jiko, or The Mara.

I recommend securing a room on the 2-3-or 4th floor at this resort. You get a panaromic view and are very close to the wildlife. This resort is generally quiet and is a refreshing place to return at the end of a busy park day.

Disney Planning Tips: Ask Duane Whitman

What's it like on a Disney Cruise during Christnas?

Disney Christmas cruises are available in November and December. It's a festive occasion for guests and crew members. You'll find a large and beautifully decorated tree with sparkling lights in the Atrium. There is a special tree lighting celebration on your first night at sea. The lobby has a large gingerbread house and wreaths, lights, and ribbons adorn staircases, rails, and lounges. Carolers entertain with holiday favorites during your cruise.

Guests can enjoy a holiday deck party with Mickey and Minnie and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Claus appear while enjoying the cruise with guests. While onboard, family friendly ornament making can be enjoyed by everyone. There are special holiday menus available in the restaurants. Throughout your cruise be sure to sample hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies. It may even snow on the ship!

The fun continues on Disney's private islands. They have Christmas trees, island holiday music, and decorations. It may even snow during your visit. A Christmas cruise on DCL is truly an experience that will bring joy to every member of your family.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips: Ask Duane

Are there behind the scenes tours in Walt Disney World?

Yes, and they are fascinating tours that show how the magic happens in WDW. In the Magic Kingdom you can try Keys to the Kingdom. Guests can learn about the creation of WDW and also visit the underground utilitors. These tunnels allow cast members to travel from land to land and it's also where a lot of service equipment is located. We've taken this tour and it is easily one of our favorite memories. All the parks have VIP tours that can be customized to attractions that appeal to your family.

In Epcot, Behind the Seeds in the Land pavillion is an interesting tour that allows guests to walk backstage and see how castmembers help bring this beautiful area to life. Most of the food grown here is used by restaurants throughout Epcot. You can also interact with dolphins in The Living Seas.

At Animal Kingdom guests can get close up with magnificent elephants in Caring For Giants. Learn about the challenges faced by African wildlife in Up Close with Rhinos (we got to touch one!). Savor the Savanna lets you study wildlife and and sample African food. The guided Wild African Trek lets guests traverse paths and cross a rope bridge over crocodiles. You can also take a Starlight Safari at Kidani Village in the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips: Ask Duane Part 1

The Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom is currently closed and scheduled to reopen by Spring 2027. New scenes are being created featuring the 1960's, 1980's and the near future. Father and Mother will be voiced by Bryan Cranston and Jamie Lee Curtis. An animatronic Walt Disney will introduce the attraction!

The Rivers of America are being replaced by Piston Peak. This Cars themed area will let guests take part in a thrilling road race on a challenging course. You will be dodging streams and rocks throughout your ride.

Behind Piston Peak will be Villians Land. Guests will be going through a thick forest with twisting branches. Along the way you will be meeting some of Disney's most well known villians on a ride hosted by the Magic Mirror. A planned roller coaster themed to Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty should provide spooky thrills as it takes riders on a wild adventure.

In Epcot, Spaceship Earth is scheduled to have updated scenes, ride vehicles, and narration by 2029 or 2030.

I'm excited by the news and very interested in Villians Land and Carousel of Progress. The Magic Kingdom hasn't added a new "land" in a long time. What should I book for my Walt Disney World vacation?

Today's vacations are much more than just arriving and enjoying attractions. The Disney parks and resorts have a variety of experiences for all ages. Each park has behind the scenes tours that enhance guests enjoyment of their vacation. Maybe you would like to explore the underground utilitors at the Magic Kingdom. Perhaps your family would like an up close viewing of elephants in Animal Kingdom. Each park is rich in details that can be enjoyed by slowing down and looking around or taking a tour that features subjects that interest your family.

Each Disney resort has a unique theme. You can see African animals from your room at Animal Kingdom Lodge. One can feel like they are in a tropical paradise and have views of the Magic KIngdom from the Polynesian resort. I always encourage my guests to spend at least one day of vacation in the resort. It's time well spent for all members of the family.

Disney Planning Tips: Ask Duane

What's the best way to plan a WDW vacation?

Start by determining who's going and what the dates are for your trip. An important question to ask is what's everyone's expectations are for your vacation. This should include the youngest members of your group. The next part is where to stay and how long to be in WDW. Keep in mind that guests will spend more time at their resort than just "sleeping and showering". If there is a park you want to spend more time in, than a resort close to it would be a convenient choice.

It's a good idea to know which days you will visit each park. This also helps with dining selections. For instance planning a meal in Epcot on the day you're in Animal Kingdom will take a lot of travel time. After two days in parks give yoursel a day at the resort or maybe dinner at Disney Springs. WDW is best enjoyed in small bites rather than big gulps!

These suggestions are just the beginning. There are lots of things to do outside of the parks.Thoughtful planning will enhance your visit to WDW. Are Disney cruises fun for all ages?

There is something for all ages on a Disney Cruise. DCL currently has eight ships and another being built. You can enjoy a Disney Cruise for multiple days to the Bahamas & Caribbean, Alaska, Europe & the Mediterranean, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

Each ship has a nursery and kid's clubs for all ages. There are Broadway worthy shows and movies in beautiful theaters. Cooking and w**e tasting are often available. You can eat in a different restaurant and your wait staff rotates witn you. DCL has one of the most popular private islands (Castaway Cay) in the industry. Disney was also the first cruise line to have fireworks at sea. There is a lot for all ages to do together. When your kids are at a club the parents can have some quality time together with no worries. Mickey Mouse and many other Disney characters are also on board.

This really is a vacation for all ages. No rope drops, Lightning Lanes, or buses to catch on DCL. We've been ten times and can't wait for the next cruise. You have the fun and I'll take care of the details.

Disney Vacation Planning Tips Ask Duane:

How do I get around the Walt Disney World Resort?

It's easy to travel within Walt Disney World. Depending on which resort you're vacationing in there are a number of options. Guests have access to buses, monorails, watercraft, skyliner, and walking. Some resort have more than one option and all of them have buses.

It's a good idea to give your family extra time to reach your preferred destination. I recommend a one hour window each way. when traveling. With four major theme parks, two water parks, a shopping area, and many resort hotels it can take some time to get from point A to B. If you use your car remember that you have to park in the lot and then walk or tram to your destination. You are on very busy and unfamiliar roads. It could be especially challenging at night after a long fun day in the parks. Give yourself the time and enjoy the Disney ride.

It can be a lot of fun seeing the sights from the Disney monorail or enjoying the breeze from Disney's watercraft. See the world from above on the skyliner. You could even walk and and watch the Magic Kingdom or Epcot come into view as you round the corner. I enjoy them all but am a huge monorail fan and yes I can recite the announcesments by heart. I do however say them to myself and not bother other guests.! (please stand clear of the doors...)
