Our 80th Anniversary World War II Weekend event is fast approaching on August 23-24. There are several great presenters, artifacts displays, living history, 1940s fashion show, children's obstacle course and VA250 Mobile Museum during the weekend.

Actor/historian Charles Wissinger will be one of the presenters as he portrays Audie Murphy. U.S. Army First Lieutenant Audie Murphy was an American soldier, actor and song writer. He is widely celebrated as the most decorated American combat soldier of World War II, and has been described as the most highly decorated enlisted soldier in U.S. history. Murphy received the Medal of Honor for valor that he demonstrated at age 19 for single-handedly holding off a company of German soldiers for an hour at the Colmar Pocket in France in January 1945, before leading a successful counterattack while wounded.

Visit https://pamplinpark.org/event/world-war-ii-80th-anniversary-weekend/ for more info and plan to join us to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

It's a great weekend to get out and hit the Breakthrough Battlefield trails at Pamplin Historical Park. Visit the park and explore the April 2, 1865 battlefield where the 292-day Siege of Petersburg ended and a 14,000 man Union assault broke through Confederate lines. Just seven days later, the surrender took place at Appomattox Court House.

Guests can also experience the award-winning "Trial by Fire" exhibit and see thousands of artifacts in the park's National Museum of the Civil War Soldier.
