Yes, LOCATION IS EVERYTHING! I think this is especially true in Europe where walkability is the key!
Why do you want to come to Europe? To see it, to experience it…not to take a 20 minute taxi ride every time you need to eat!
So when I am choosing hotels for my guests, I think about what they want to see, what their priorities are, and the BEST location to make that happen!
For example, I had a family visiting Paris last fall. They wanted to be immersed in the culture. They wanted cafes & Parisian charm. I chose a property in Le Marais because it is centrally located with great dining options & steps away from some of the most popular attractions BUT the neighborhood is historic & charming! It was the best of both worlds but location was EVERYTHING!
At the very least, if it’s not walkable, I always recommend properties that are close to public transportation, like a metro station in Paris!
Here’s a pro tip: for smaller cities, staying near the “Old Town” is usually a great choice!
