Happy 100th to one of Portland’s most iconic landmarks — the Burnside Bridge!

Originally built as a swing bridge in 1894, the version we know today was completed in 1926 for $4.5 million, right in the middle of Portland’s rapid growth. Designed by Joseph Strauss, who would later go on to design the Golden Gate Bridge, it’s known for its distinctive Italian Renaissance-style towers.

Stretching about 2,300 feet with a 251-foot center span, it’s been a defining part of Portland’s skyline for a century.
