The Chinese Pavilion was built in 1985–86 in front of what was then the Riverside Central Library, now home to The Cheech, at the corner of Mission Inn Avenue and Orange Street. 🏮 It was created to honor the Chinese settlers who came to Riverside in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, celebrating their lasting contributions to the city’s history and culture.

🎬✨ A little Riverside history you have to experience!

If you’re not from Riverside, you might not know about one of our coolest hidden gems: the Van Buren Drive-In 🚗🍿

Opening its doors on July 10, 1964, the drive-in has been a Riverside staple for more than 60 years. It started with just one screen and expanded to three screens in 1975, giving generations of families, friends, and movie lovers a place to enjoy movies under the stars. 🌙🎥

Today, it’s one of the few remaining drive-in theaters around, making it a pretty special piece of old-school California history. With room for up to 1,500 cars, it’s still open year-round and continues to keep the classic drive-in experience alive.

Fun fact: the very first movies shown here were George Peppard in The Carpetbaggers and Jerry Lewis in The Patsy. 🎞️

So if you’re visiting Riverside, don’t just do the usual tourist stops — grab some snacks, park your car, turn on the radio, and experience a piece of Riverside history at the Van Buren Drive-In. 🍿🚗✨

60+ years later, and the movies are still rolling. ❤️
