It’s always a good day when the anchors come back aboard ⚓️

We carry two on the Riggin: our working anchor and our storm anchor. And of course, no anchor is complete without the chain. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes steps that means we’re getting closer and closer to sailing season.

The jib is going on, which means we’re getting closer to launch day ⚓️

“Bending on” a sail is the process of attaching it to the stay so it’s ready to fly once we’re under sail. It’s one of those jobs that takes patience, teamwork, and a lot of careful tying, clipping, and adjusting—but seeing the sail finally take shape always makes it worth it.

What have we been up to? Working hard to get the Riggin sparkling for the summer sailing season ⚓️

Historic wooden boats need an incredible amount of care and attention to keep them strong, seaworthy, and beautiful year after year. Every coat of paint, every repair, every long day in the yard is part of preserving a piece of history.

The Riggin is truly a labor of love — and somehow she always gives back just as much as we give to her. 🌊

What are we up to? Swinging spars! We can almost taste the fresh air of Penobscot bay!

Often leading up to sailing season, we end up rigging in the rain 🌧️⚓️
A lot of people ask why — but there’s actually a method to it. Usually this time of year we’re also finishing up painting and varnishing projects, and those need the sunny, dry days. So when the rain rolls in, we shift gears and focus on rigging work instead.

Around here, you learn to work with the weather, not against it!

This 4-day, 4-night adventure is made for music lovers.

We’ll be joined by the Gawler Family Band & Company for concerts, contra dancing, and plenty of toe-tapping fun along the way. From poignant ballads to rollicking fiddle tunes, their music brings together family harmonies, folk traditions, and stories that are just as memorable as the songs themselves.

Pack your dancing shoes — this is going to be a good one.

Roll call: who’s joining us aboard the Schooner J. & E. Riggin this season? 🌊

Out here, the notifications get replaced with waves against the hull, wind in the sails, and quiet mornings along the coast of Maine. A few days away from the noise can do wonders 😌

Lunch underway just hits different ⚓️

One of our favorite parts of life aboard is gathering around the table while the coast of Maine drifts by outside. Some days lunch is enjoyed at anchor, but often it’s served buffet-style while we’re still under sail—plates in hand, sea breeze coming through, and nowhere else to be.

Life aboard doesn’t run on a strict clock. Meal times shift a little with the wind, the weather, shore excursions, and the rhythm of the day, but there’s always something warm waiting after a morning on deck. 🤍
